Ramos is being touted as a swap for De Gea. I must admit I've never really rated him but what do others here think? Could he be worth de Gea + 30m? He can't be that good and we surely can get a better defender !
Ramos ha been Spains best defender for some time but, at his age, no way worth De Gea + money. Maybe the other way around though Ramos +£ for De Gea.
Ramos is 29 but has 2 years left on his contract, De Gea is 24 odd but has 1 year left, so it's tricky. The fact that Madrid know De Gea wants to move back means its in their favour, I would think Ramos would be valued higher than De Gea as a result (but not much, maybe 10m or less). That being said I'm 90% certain this is just a ploy by Ramos to get a new contract, I think it is extremely likely that he'll get a massive pay rise and stay at Madrid. Daniel Alves did the same with his contract, although his was about to expire so was more likely he could leave.
Despite his defensive strengths, I've always thought of Ramos as a bit of a liability when he makes those marauding forward runs. Against fast-paced PL players I worry that he could leave our already frail defence even more exposed. Still, as HRH points out, he's far better than any of our current defenders, so if the price was right, why not
I think so too. How many times have we seen this? Madrid players feeling disgruntled and then signing a new contract when offered one. Ramos is probably better than any we have at the moment but he is at 29 near the end of his career. Reminds me of a Vidic , may be a year before he left United.
Bang up to date as usual Matth, where would we be without you feeding us this information? Both would add some much needed experience to us, as well as being top players of course, we can't just buy a load of young players and be 'in transition' for more seasons. Next season we need to be winning competitions, or at least competing fully. These two will help to do that and balance the squad. Not sure I really believe the Ramos one but I do think we'll get Schweinsteiger.
