Mata hasn't adjusted to the player Jose wants him to be, the guy has no defensive qualities whatsoever as oppose to Oscar who gets back and can win the ball/use muscle. It's not a case of how good a player is when you're talking about the level of Mata/Oscar/Hazard/Willian, it's who plays best under the manager's system. I thought it was crazy at first, Mata is a genius, but this season whenver he's played he has done absolutely nothing. I imagine he'll leave in the summer.
Like many players, getting a game in every 5 does not allow them to show their true qualities. Also, I am of the opinion that attacking players shouldnt have to defend, at least they shouldnt be relied on, after all they are paid to attack, defenders to defend. When you look around europe, the best sides have attackers attacking, they do no defending. Its been my biggest gripe with United in recent years.
You're right. Mata was fatigued in pre season after playing consistant football for a couple of years, he then became injured for a while and lost his place and all this happened among the speculation of his departure. Now whenever he's given the chance, he struggles to produce and it doesn't help that the three players in front of him in the pecking order are on fire and play extremely well together. Mata actually started a fair few games when returning from injury, but couldn't pick up form. Didn't say they had to defend, I'm saying Oscar naturally does it. Attacking players aren't paid to attack, they're played to play the way the manager wants them to - to play football. If that was the case, we'd have 4/5 players playing off the defence every game.
The Special One may have a soft spot for Untd, judging by recent interviews, but loan Mata? - hardly! Chelsea are not looking to offload first team players to rivals, even though Untd are no longer realistic title contenders. In the same way, as probably the best No.10 in the league, Rooney should not go to Chelsea. With him and RVP fit again, there is yet hope for the team to finish higher than they are now, even with Valencia playing
Fergie has apparently called Larry White ( the PSG manager ) to ask about the availability of Edison Cavani..
There's a big difference between playing number 10 and wearing the number 10!! Rooney's best position and the most effective he's been for United is playing at nine, i.e as the main striker. He has been marginalised by the arrival and form of RVP. If he came to Chelsea he would take the place of Torres not Mata/Oscar.
Quality player but they have only just bought him. Can't see that one even remotely. And injuries aside, do you really need another forward when you have Rooney and RVP with Hernandez/Welbeck as back up?
Rooney could well leave if we dont make the Champions League and RvP is no spring chicken. This would be a sensible signing with that in mind. Though why we didnt just try for Lewandowski I will never know.
Intrigued, I read the story here: - http://www.football.co.uk/mancheste...with_edinson_cavani_transfer_rss4573457.shtml Is it just Moyes' imagination I wonder, deflecting attention? - or how reliable are reports that Rooney wants to leave again? Will Cavani want to join us if there is no Champions League football next season?
Ther is that. Maybe if another lub actually tried to take German players ahead of bayern they might get some joy. Clubs seem to just give up. Same with if Barcelona and Real are interested.
One German who may still be signed this transfer window, of course is Gundogan. Rumours abound, but with only a week left, perhaps this is the best deal for Untd. OK, so he has been injured since early August, but an attacking midfielder of his quality would be a great acquisition and may even dispel any thoughts Rooney may have of leaving?
Don't know about this window but I'm sure in the Summer we will sign Cavani and Gundogan and that will leave us free to swap Rooney for Mata.
He has scored more goals playing as a number 9, but that is obviously going to be the case. Though that doesn't mean it's his best position. Rooney for me is far to good an all round footballer to be used all the time as a number 9, as you want a player of his quality getting on the ball as often as possible. Obviously if RVP is injured it is handy to have Rooney, as he is still world class as a number 9 and can fill the void, but in an ideal world Rooney is better being played as a number 10 in behind RVP
