I think it's more sad than unacceptable. What did he say, judge me after three months? And then we'll see his 'philosophy' If that's the case and this is it then it's a pretty sad indictment of his skills. We've now got a great squad who play dross, I know some on here think the team decide themselves to play this way but that is clearly complete bollocks. It's van Gaal who sends them out to play that way. And it's a bit sad really. These players should be going out to beat the opposition, whoever they are. Instead we play pedestrian football to not lose. It's good to not lose, don't get me wrong, but football is ultimately about entertainment, being entertained, and enjoyment in watching it. United do not currently provide that.
Part of the problem is a fundamental element of the philosophy was a categorical disaster. We were supposed to play 5-3-2 (or 3-5-2 if pretending that it wasn't a very defensive formation) but it didn't work. Players were signed for the system. Rojo and Di Maria being two examples. Since that experiment failed he's been scrapping around looking for a system and team that works whilst always sticking to his defensive principles.
You would have thought that. But we all know that cups throw unexpected results and a mixture of factors:too many reserve players thrown together, championship side motivated to get a result in a massive venue, newish team playing without the 'backbone' of the team(DG, Morgan, Rooney, martial) . Of course all this would not have mattered under Fergie. But then Fergie is a one off and every week that passes by shows how exceptional he was in getting players integrated into the team and how well he understands English football .
I love how the anti LvG crew deny being anti LvG at all times. You would think they thought we couldn't see their posts...
You would have expected us to beat a **** load of sides. York City springs to mind. Sometimes it happens. What about Leeds at home a few years ago?
"But we are improving a lot. We got played off the pitch by MK Dons last year and now we are almost in the quarter-finals. I have to rotate because there are a lot of matches on in a week and the players can't recover." Our manager Imagine Moyes saying that.
Just for the In bullet point form, show what is wrong with what he's said. Show where he is incorrect. Imagine Moyes saying we had improved at any point.... Nope, can't do it.
Anyone who isnt blinkered or a hypocrite can see. I dare say you can as well tbh. And if you can't... then just imagine Moyes saying it
Looks like we have 3 others. Could be wrong though. Have they recently scrapped a European and English cup competition?
You would need kindergarten and some crayons and even then you'd struggle to lift your knuckles high enough to hold them. You're a hypocrite. If that was Moyes you'd be hiring a plane and painting a banner
One thing I noticed about van gaal. He is so stubborn and will never admit defeat or that he's wrong. Might be a good thing to some extent but doesn't work all the time . Last season he started with 3-5-2 which wasn't working obviously. Fans and pundits cried out but he wouldn't bulge. We dropped so many points but he was adamant. Fans even chanted 4-4-2 in the stadium but he held his ground. Not until we almost became a laughing stock before he decided to switch formation. Then it was Herrera. He benched him even though he always played well whenever he plays. Fans screamed play Herrera but the manager benched him and decided to play Rooney in midfield just to show that he's the boss. Not until it became very obvious before he gave him a chance. This season every football fan in the world can see that Rooney is off from and not gonna improve (even if he does he's not gonna be in top form for extended period), but the manager being van gaal he will keep playing him just to prove he's the boss. Yes he doesn't want anyone to teach him his job. Looks like fans and pundits need to shut up and not teach van gaal his job, maybe then he will finally realize Rooney is no longer the player he used to be.
Really? So you were cheering him on when he got us to the semi-final of the Carling Cup, had us 20 points after 11 games and had us 1st in the CL group stages from day 1 to day 6. Anywhere near? I would say he was exceeding Van Gaal so far. Lets see what excuse you'll come up with now. Had Moyes said that we were improving bcos we had lost to a league 1 side but now managed to beat a mid-table championship side AFTER a defeat to another championship side in the next round AND then claim we almost made it to a quarter final, you'd be the first to claim his loser mentality. I'm not denying that Moyes may not have been up to the task, but LVG is beginning to sound more and more like him.
Tbh there are rumours (and copies of contracts) doing the rounds that there's more to it than we all think re Rooney, and so it's not simply down to LVG. Although your point about him being a stubborn pr1ck is still spot on
So... to recap: At the same stage under Moyes: 20 points after 11 league games Top of the CL group after every game In the Q/F of the League Cup Dire football At the same stage under Van Gaal: 21 points after 11 league games Joint 2nd in the CL group Knocked out after 2 rounds of the League Cup Dire football Remind me again of this progress malarky
I'm not a frtune teller mate. So far, this is the peak of LVG's time here. Or have we peaked already and are on the decline? You said yourself, and I quote... If Moyes had performed anywhere near van Gaals level he would have had my fill support and backing. So far this season, Moyes has performed near (and in fact above) Van Gaal's level. So how come you didn't support Moyes at the time?
