Lucas maybe?? Gerrard never been the player I've seen to track back and do the dirty work, Allen isn't, Shelvey No, Henderson is just a workhorse box to box player doesn't want to do the dirty work. Lucas has just come back from injury and is more of the type of player before injury after injury if he can back to what he was before then maybe. Good luck with Coutinho but Zaha has played in the cut and thrust of the Championship a bit different to La Liga, Serie A and South American football which is more of a patient build up then PL and Championship.
We wasn't talking about players tracking back etc, we was talking about having a physical presence! Zaha may as well be coming from a foreign league, the Championship is completely different to the Premier League.
You could be right, we will see anyway I like the look of Coutinho been watching some videos and he looks like a tricky player, good on the free kicks if the wall doesn't jump that is, watched a couple of his free kicks and they went under the wall wonder if any Premier teams will have noticed that. It can only be a good buy as like you side he is more of an attacking midfielder (No.10 if you like) and looks like he has real potential, good luck for the rest of the season and look forward to watching this kid in action if the video's are anything to go by.
Given that the courthino transfer goes through, if we made one more signing this window who you want it to be.? For me I would like to see a powerful, experienced midfielder, someone like muamba, diabe etc. think we need a physical presence in that area. Like the look of bernaga at Valencia but only seen him couple of times and not sure he is that physical. Who would it be ( and no messi/Neymar type calls) someone who may be available.
Diame is rumored to be allowed to leave West Ham as he has a £3.5m buyout clause. I wouldn't say no!
Although I can see and understand this call, does it not worry you that a club such as Wigan (no offence) let the lad leave at the end of last season...?
The problem is that top top quality players won't come because they are overpaid,on long contracts or want CL football. I know Diame played well against us earlier this season and he was a good player for Wigan even though,as usual, they were struggling. Just think for the small cost it would be worth a punt. He may prove to be a better player with better players around him.
Wasn't saying he wouldn't be worth the punt, just airing concerns. Not sure he would be that cheap now though, I'd also expect West Ham to try and make it part of the Carroll deal or something, it is Sam Allardyce afterall
Still think Mulumbu is a class player too, but we all know deep down Rodgers won't sign that type of player.
Yeah probably. Carroll...remember him ,seems years ago now. Still think he could have done a job for us but not suited to system maybe.
Agreed. It's almost getting to a stage where anybody that can put their foot in, even if its a short term signing, would be welcome. We are not talking about buying a 20 goal a season striker, you can accept that they are as rare as rocking horse ****. We are talking about a mobile midfielder that can put himself about and put a few tackles in. There are loads of these types around Europe and I don't for one second believe that even with our limited funds there's no one available for us to get in that position to just give us a bit of defensive presence and steel in the midfield.
Playing Devil's Advocate here but shouldn't Lucas provide this? I'm a massive Lucas fan but this is a reason why I still prefer Mascherano over Lucas.
With regards to Diame, I think he has a heart issue and requires a heart machine within 50 metres. Not sure if this is true but I can imagine this would deter clubs.
Yes and nobody is denying or saying otherwise. It is about squads nowadays and having just one player that can play this role it not great, especially considering the problems Lucas has had over last twelve to fifteen months.
