You don't like to pay over the odds on players, especially British ones. <ok>

Thought we would have learnt our lesson from past experiences. Johnson (although I think hes a good defender, he isn't worth £17mil), Downing, Carroll, Henderson (although I do think he'll become a good player) all about £7mil overpriced because they are English (apart from Carroll but that was exceptional circumstances with Torres).

Just think you could go abroad and find someone who is technically as good at just passing the ball around in the second division in Spain.

Joe Allen is the next big thing. If he is available we should not be afraid of entering into a bidding war ..... We should pay £20 mill if we have to

15m would get us a much better player from let's say Spain or Italy, so why are we only looking to the prem? The top clubs in England don't seem to be doing that, it's what sets us apart.

So that's a no. Henderson does the same thing as Allen only Henderson has more of an eye for the through pass (vs. Bolton for Suarez).

Though if it were Allen or Dempsey I suppose Allen would win out.

Take those 15, go to Spain, look at Villareal, Valencia, Atletico or Ath. Bilbao. Visit Italy and look through Napoli, Sampdoria, Palermo, Fiorentina, Lazio and there's not many players 15m couldn't buy.

    ^^ this

It is sad to look north (to Newcastle) and see what used to be a team that made such embarrassing mistakes in the transfer market doing so well. It shows with some good scouting, common sense, strict guidelines you can find decent players for good money. (Newcastle only buy players outright, not extra clauses, refuse to budge on large wages and demand that the player has been thoroughly researched to make sure they will settle.) Liverpool is still a top drawer club in the world and players will come here. Not the best of the best players (aguero, etc) but very decent players.

This is Liverpool, surely they have a very large scouting network?

If Adam, Aqua and Cole are set to leave then it does make some sense, but still for 15m?

We tried the british thing last year or two (of which I was in favor) but unfortuneatly all it turned out to be was expensive and ee ended up in our worst league finish. Sorry but I am bored of only buying 'potential' (hedo - lol), we need some new blood that can perform on the pitch NOW. 15mil can buy better players from over seas as others have said. Anywsy its a no from me if you hadnt guessed

price is now quoted by the media as £12m. I would take a chance at that price as he is only young and has potential. We could also recoup a fair amount of the fee if he does not mature into a first team player.

It is certainly better business than Adam or Downing

  11. I understand the 'go abroad' comments but, this is nothing to do with the club's recruitment policy and everything to do with Brendan Rodgers buying players he is familiar with! Sigurdson, Borini and now Allen with only Dempsey being one that he hasn't. Allen or Dempsey? Easy decision for me <ok>

For 12m I would take Allen over Dempsey as Allen is so much younger. Though Dempsey offers more going forward.

I understand looking at players he is familiar with, however, remember how familiar Hodgson was with Konchesky?

  13. Of course I do but I think we need to trust our managers and stop hitting them with the Hodgson brush! Rafa bought players he was familiar with too in Sissoko, Alonso, Arbeloa, Pelligrino, Reina, etc <ok>

Mouriniho did it with Chelsea to.

And I always thought Dalglish signed Adam because he is Scottish.

    poll is now closed.

39 voters, only 4 are opposed to buying him. 10 think the price is too high.. conversely 13 say yes and another 2 including myself say they don't know but will trsut rodgers on it.

Interesting and not unexpected given how young he is.

Conclusions? I think its a mixed bag but the vast majority would be in favour at a lower price but even at 15mil it seems a majority would think its a good deal if it happens.
