6,000 Carlisle fans at Anfield! Pity that many don't turn up for their home games..

It would be nice if that result got a few more through the turnstiles.

I doubt it. So long as they remember to put something in there praising Mike and his investment they`ll be fine.

Jeer leader: McClaren's honeymoon period with the Newcastle fans is definitely over
Steve McClaren admitted his Newcastle side “deserved” the boos that greeted their Capital One Cup exit and conceded “confidence is draining” from his side.

Sheffield Wednesday's Lewis McGugan triggered the first revolt of McClaren’s young reign at St James' Park, blasting home a 76th minute winner to clinch a well-deserved win for his second-tier club.

This was a Newcastle side supposedly targeting a cup run this season. But they ended the night being outplayed by the reserve side of the 14th-placed club in the Championship, as the rot continued for both the club and their new manager.

Newcastle have won just four times in 2015.

McClaren’s personal record is three victories in his last 21 games, including a collapse in form at Championship Derby last season.

The clubs he has defeated? Wigan, Blackpool and Northampton.

McGugan’s drive from 25 yards piled the pressure on a faltering, leaderless home side, who are still winless in the Premier League under McClaren and showing little creativity.

Wednesday dominated the ball and created a handful of chances before the killer blow.

While Newcastle mustered their first shot on target after 86 minutes.

Little wonder boss McClaren and his players were greeted with raucous jeers when they tried to applaud their supporters at the final whistle.

He said: “I have been in football too long to be embarrassed. Angry, disappointed. Things like that can happen in football.

"The booing? Deservedly so. That is what happens when you lose games you should win, and don’t score goals.

“You have to ride the lot, deservedly so. No excuses. The criticism since West Ham has affected us. Confidence is draining out and we can’t have that. We have to draw a line in the sand.

“We said to the players you can feel sorry for yourselves or you can come out on Saturday and be a fighter or a victim.”

Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal said: “Tactically, my players were 200 per cent. They played fantastic. They did exactly the plan. We blocked the ways they usually attack and we tried to create problems.”

Punching above their weight: McGugan celebrates scoring Championship Wednesday's winner

At one point in the first half, Toon defender Daryl Janmaat appeared to throw up on the touchline. It was not surprising, given a sickness has infected his team’s play.

Bored with endless square balls along the back four, the home fans started to sing: “Attack, attack, attack, attack, attack...”

If Newcastle don’t snap out of this form, they will be doomed in the Premier League. Champions Chelsea visit on Saturday.

After McGugan’s goal, Wednesday should have scored a second — Lucas Joao had a header tipped onto the bar and the rebound was smashed against the same pece of woodwork from two yards by Bus.

Newcastle fans are now asking if it will be 'Taxi for McClaren!'

Newcastle fans! Have you already given up on McClaren?

I genuinely thought the same, Wij . . . . now he just seems to be a loser and the role is far too big for him :emoticon-0112-wonde

He's also alienating the fans by constantly, and stupidly, 'laughing off' the obvious problems . . . . perhaps he thinks that it's "just a game" when we all know that "it's much more important than that" <doh>

Have to say I vocally wanted him here - at a time when Derby were doing OK in the championship and looking likely to be promoted or at least top 4! (when we sacked Poyet). So glad we didn't get him now though - I'd say I have sympathy with them up the road - but I don't!!

I don't get much enjoyment out of the towns struggles whilst we are even worse than them. The situation for me is like losing a tenner then finding a pound.

The difference between us and them is the fact that we expect to be ****, we are used to it, whereas they still think they are the Barcelona of the North.
McLaren came out with a corker the other night on Sky by the way.

Hide in the bog, though, otherwise it won't be cost effective :emoticon-0100-smile . . . . and don't forget to visit The Dome for lunch while you're there 'cos it's lovely :emoticon-0105-wink:

It'd be cheaper, mind, if you just gave it to me :emoticon-0136-giggl

For the sake of the region I hope we both get our acts together and get out of this bottom three, for what its worth I think we both will, and I dont think Stoke will go down either, this is a massive season as far as the money thats riding on it is concerned, Bournemouth, West Brom and Villa are my tips for the drop.
