COR, city ended on 41 points. last season 41 points was enough to stay up http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/league-championship/2011-2012 unfortunatley for city, 55 points was needed to stay up and you dont get 55 points by conceding as much as 84 goals 
i just been told that barnsley (who finished 21st) was closer to the play offs (13 points away) than city was from staying up (14 points away)
