That seems an utterly crazy approach to me. If Mourinho is coming, why not bring him in now and give him five months to work with the squad and determine what needs doing, rather than only bringing him in in summer and assuming he can work out the ins and outs of the squad whilst they are all on holiday? The club scouts can do the scouting, that's what they are there for! Mourinho can just as easily read their reports and watch the players he is interested in whilst managing us as he can when sitting around at home.
Those rumours seem to have been started by the ITK Trevor Sinclair who is a bitter. The coward will at least have the next two games to demonstrate that there has been a modicum of progress thanks to his philosophy (and £250m spend).
I have just seen a team in red play the United way. The youth team beat QPR 2-1 after extra time in the youth cup. They played really well, with great confidence, speed and flair, it brought back memories of how we used to be. Big shout out to Rashford, Gribben, Fonsu-mensah and Gomez, as a front 4 they have everything you could ask, Flair, speed, skill and a desire to attack coupled with the intelligence to know when to slow it down.
Liverpool fans trying to convince Utd fans Mourinho is a wrong-en. Can sense they know it'll be a successful marriage whilst they look to cement mid table with the German David Brent.
Inevitable reports today that Herrera is unhappy with his treatment by the coward and will look for a move if things don't change. I think he'll go on to be a top player for another club that believes in the importance of goals.
I saw Herrera at Bilbao. He hasnt progressed as a footballer under Van Gaal. Mind you, if a young Paul Scholes was in this side, he'd probably spend most of his time on the bench. Part of some "master plan" ofcourse.
Even if he somehow survives this season and goes on to spend another £100m to win the title next season will it be any kind of an achievement? How many managers who have spent £250-£350million have failed to win the PL?
Jose needs a good pre season for his methods to work. He needs to hit the ground running to guarantee success. See chelsea 2015/16!! Are you really advocating sacking Lvg midseason?
£250m. Had he won the league this season I would have given him credit for it. 7th to champions in two seasons, even having spent £250m, would be an achievement. This squad is good enough to win this league (emphasis on "this" as it's not good enough to win the league most seasons) but because of the way he's gone about team selection and formation we won't win it, unless he stops hiding behind the philosophy and bending over for certain players. He will want another £100m next summer so he can replace a number of the players he's signed/ruined. As I said, spending £350m to win the league isn't an achievement. Unless we're going to hail Mancini and Pellegrini as great managers (which they're not!). Spending £350m and failing to win the league us comical. The thought of Mourinho in charge for the second half of the season makes me shudder but I think he'd guarantee us top 4. Under LVG I don't think we'll get there.
If a clearly superior manager can be appointed to replace him immediately then yes. Given our performances this season, I don't believe LVG will win the title before he retires. Which begs the question of why we would stick with him when we know he's leaving in 2017 anyway and we'd have to bring in a new manager then anyway. Sacking him to replace him with Mourinho is another question of course. Mourinho is superior tactically, but he would need to be committed to the club for the long term, and would need to alter his behaviour if he was going to move to us. I don't think anyone at Utd wants a repeat of his tenure at Real and Chelsea - a three season long circus in exchange for one league title is not really what we aspire to tbh. Then again, neither is three seasons of turgid defensive football for no league titles. Rock -> Utd <- Hard place
LVG will be retiring at the end of the 2016/17 season and between now and then there are three transfer windows - so possibly (based on recent expenditure) the club could have spent something in the order of another £350 million. IMO this next window is the critical one as it will show whether LVG has correctly identified the deficiencies in the squad in order to bring us up to the standard of flowing play that fans want - or whether he intends to buy more players that fit into the current, pedestrian style of play. Woodward will have been given the list of targets and the board will have already had the opportunity to identify from those players which direction LVG hopes to take the club going forward. If it appears to be more of the same, then they can make a decision whether to stick or twist as they can be in no doubt what the matchday fans feel about the present style of play and it must make commercial sense to cut LVG loose before more wasted spending. On that basis I wonder if there is truth in the rumour that he has until the Chelsea game - on the basis that it is the last before the window opens.
