Agreed. Personally I was willing to accept the negative mentality and poor performances in the short term if it got us moving forwards. Didn't really like how defensive we were, but it did seem to form part of a plan - play negative in the early part of the game to suss out and shut down the opposition's threat, then open up a bit once we are comfortable and get the goals needed to win. Barring the Arsenal match, it worked fine in the first bit of the season, but the plan has been found out in the past few games. Teams are now sussing us out and either keeping us shut out or picking us off when we start trying to attack. We need a change in approach, but LVG seems unable to set a team up to attack for the win without leaving big holes at the back. Tbh I think he has taken us as far as he can, and probably recognises that fact. Like Benitez in 2009, he knows he can't deliver more so is desperately looking for excuses and fahkts to try and claim he has achieved something. I think we need to change manager in the summer, or we risk doing what Benitez did to Liverpool in 2010.
My thoughts also. The caveat being that should be win a cup and start to improve significantly in the league then he of course gets the stay of execution that that would justify. I think if we simply scrape fourth (or even third) again and win nothing then he's got to go as we will have simply stagnated having spent **** loads of money. From here on in we need to start improving, sharpish, or he has no chance of staying beyond this summer. There could be two top drawer managers waiting in the wings who can pick uo what he's left.
It would make sense for you to move for Pep or Ancelotti (presuming that's who you are on about), LVG just isn't a Utd manager, neither was Moyes, time for you lot to get back to playing football. I just hope that we can be that bit better than you every season which is the difficult bit.
One positive is that I think he can be truisted to sign the players we need in January. That's assuming we are, which we must be FFS!! I can't see him buying us **** so whoever he does manage to get would be a good player to leave the next manager. We need a right back, a centre forward and a right winger with pace. And we need them urgently. A centre half wouldn't go amiss either to be perfectly honest but if we get the ones we have fit we are more or less ok in that department. I will say though, I watched Swansea last weekend and I think it would be criminal if Ashley Williams never got a shot at a bigger club. He'd be great alongside Smalling, he's very good and, I think, deserves a three year shot at the big time. It would leave Swansea ****ed of course but that's life I guess. We should buy him next month.
With the amount of money spent, the returns have been very poor. It is why I'm not a fan of the money game. The big clubs seem to be able to simply throw money around, but smaller clubs yield far better result for their investment. It is a crying shame and a disgrace! What the board needs to do is be very decisive. Giving more time to LVG knowing he has gotten the team as far as he can is not going to help. If we didn't spend all the money, I would understand our position. But you can't spend 250m and not have a squad of world class players. It's a disgrace!!!
He's a consistent performer in the PL, there was talk of us being in for him when Rodgers was in charge but it never happened and most were against the transfer but I agree he's worth a shot.
My view on LVG is that he should stay until the end of the contract. This is nothing new from me. Unless a manager we would like to recruit becomes available in the summer, in which case we should "let LVG go". If the executive is not looking for a replacement at this time they are not doing their ****ing job. And all this talk about extending his contract is a load of nonsense. I would definitely not want us to do that. It is part of the process (sorry for the cliche). It will take years to get United back to some stability. I think that LVG's recruitment hasn't been too bad. He has almost halted the slide but has not brought us up to where we want. His promotion of youngsters is good although some of it enforced. many felt he shouldn't have let go of some players but we all have our opinions who was good enough but ultimately we needed massive changes. I have come to the conclusion that LVG's style is not one that suits United. For many of us it has got to be "winning with style". For me too but I've lived through the periods where United was nowhere and hugely inconsistent, finishing mid table even as the biggest club in the land.
Van Gaal in total #meltdown In the league he has the same points by fixture as last season. 1 point more by week. "we went further in the Capital One Cup" okay you got beat by Middlesbrough instead of MK Dons. £111m well spent.
Wouldn't worry about it. Concentrate on you own failings. Were doing badly, for us.... Youre doing badly, full stop. I don't think Chelsea fans should be discussing United, if I am honest. How do you feel that the man who is bigger than your club, who is your club basically is tarnishing his reputation daily? Are you ashamed of Chelsea and the shadow cast over them by Jose? You should be. And thats before we even get into your results.
It demonstrated poor managerial judgement to have let Hernandez, Wellbeck and LVP go without a thought to replacing their 20+ per season goal tally - what did he think we were going to do, pass the ball around all season. Get rid now, give Giggs a crack again until we get a replacement in the summer
Absolutely. The results can always bail him out until the end of his contract imo. We don't aspire to be a negative club, and won't accept a negative approach in the long term, but ultimately if we win some trophies and maybe even the league then that will give us some stability and make the next manager's job easier. But my view of this season hasn't changed - if we're not challenging for the league come April and May then the season has been a failure, and the manager has to take responsibility. A cup would be a bonus, but the league is always where the team should be judged imo.
Just calling it as i see it. Hopefully jose turns a corner but at least hes made our club bigger by winning the pl three times. On the otherhand lvg is fast turning your club into a laughing stock. No trophies, lots of money spent and boring football. At least moyes provided all that with no money and even then he probably failed on the boring football front
Nice deflection. Everyone knows Chelsea are doing ****, but what does that have to do with LvG stagnating at United. Weren't you pining for Jose to take over from SAF when he retired? Chelsea fans shouldn't be discussing United? I will discuss whatever team I like thanks.
Besides, feel free, any time you like, to come over to our board and discuss how ****e we have been this season whenever you like UiR With all 3 Chelsea fans we have over there
I don't even see how you could type that message with straight face. Chelsea has become a walking disaster and worst defending champions the league has ever seen. I don't think there's a way to defend Jose and his mouth.
We are fast breaking records and its true we are a disaster at the moment. He's still a Chelsea legend though. Van Gaal on the otherhand has surprised me by how negative he is. I'm surprised its taken the mob this long to turn on him especially with United attacking history and his footballing ethos. You look at who has had in the side and they are criminally underused in terms of attacking threat and you have been one of the most boring teams to watch. No goals, no attempts on goal just a lot of ball possession in your own half. Rooney (who has been terrible and i've always thought overrated) is looking worse than ever under van Gaal. Martial, Depay, Mata, Herrera are fantastic attacking players and even Carrack and Schweinsteiger are great playmakers. Then you look at the people Van Gaal let go, Di Maria, Nani (admittedly turkish league), Hernandez and they are all smashing it in the teams they are playing in now. They can't all be **** players and suddenly turn into world beaters.
Yeah thats the main difference, even though we are having a disaster, Mourinho has some goodwill banked from winning multiple trophies with Chelsea. LvG's main achievement is (just about) getting you back in to the Champions League (however short lived your stay was). I never understood this "But your team is......" yada yada. If someone is gloating about their team being better than I can understand it, but if they are just looking for sensible discussion, just discuss it ffs.....
Although those stats may be correct why choose the Man City game as the starting point? The comparison with those other teams has no context as none are sitting 3 points below top spot. And we're only 1 point behind teams who have scored 7-10 more goals than us. If, however, you're saying we haven't scored many goals, thats fairly obvious and doesnt need stats to tell us. If anything the stats show that if we actually scored the amount we're usually capable of, we'd be pi55ing over the competition.
