You're mistaking me for someone else, I've never once mentioned mid table anything. I've also, on more than one occasion, said I think he's OK as a squad player, which you're ignoring. The point is this; if we're aspiring to get back to where we were (and personally, I am) then Fellini as a first choice player is not good enough to get us there and playing to his strengths will not get us there. Even lumping it up to him as our lame plan B will not get us there. It just will not. THAT is why he's 'not good enough'. Because we need better players than him to win the league again. He can play a part in the squad, sure. But that's his limit.
Yeh but winning then losing each time will have a really bad impact on players That's basically how Liverpool have operated for the past two decades. One step forward, one step back. Never going anywhere. Drawing is just as bad. Win 8, draw 1 lose 1. I could live with that.
To be fair that's a pretty valid point, equally applicable to Spurs. But this season it may just be enough to get them Top 4 which is what I was getting at earlier. They'll probably still do the win/lose stuff but will also pick up a few more wins and draws, enough to get that top 4 spot looking at the state of the teams up there.
The first side to get any sort of consistency from now will win the league. And I am guessing it will be May, before any team has any at all. Because that's the league this season. Anyone having success with betting
Fack off you pikey kant, support the team you nonce fack. Saved you some effort there Ossie. No charge.
Good article! This was my favourite part "Van Gaal brought in Paddy McNair, a player outsprinted by Glenn Murray at the Vitality Stadium, to compensate for Chris Smalling's absence, which is like Olly Murs filling in for Mick Jagger."
Funny article. and obviously one of LVG's ardent admirers... This weekend we played a reserve side. And I don't care whether it is Barcelona, Bayern or anyone else. A reserve side here (especially when there is no reserve league like in the past) would struggle aginst any regular team. Bournemouth play good football and deservedly beat Chelse at SB last week. So they are no mugs and as I said earlier to use THAT defeat as an example of our collapse is rather disrespectful to them. I think we should wait for some of the key players to return. If the football and results do not improve then we should look at replacing him. I have never been quick like some people here to condemn managers (From sexton through to Fergie, Moyes, and LVG) but ultimately this club belong to the fans. If they do not like the fare being served then we should change the cook. I would be most surprised and disappointed if the executive had not already started scouting the top managers for a replacement as he has only 18 months left on his contract anyway. .
Should we ignore the fact that Bournemouth had 4 key players missing as well and, despite their far more limited resources, they coped far better than we did?
No but you have to acknowledge that their team was closer to that which beat Chelsea at SB than our first team (if we do have one anyway) I said earlier we would be forced to field a weak side anyway. When I saw that team I was thinking 3-0 or 4-0 beating. Not being defeatist but realistic and acknowledging the strength of other teams.
There should be no side that Man United put out, be it first team, reserve or otherwise, that should be beaten 4-0 or 3-0 by Bournemouth. If the players in question were of the quality that allowed themselves to be hammered 4-0 by Bournemouth, then they don't belong in a Manchester United squad, or a Chelsea squad for that matter.
Arrogance? I don't think expecting a team that cost £300m to not get hammered 4-0 by Bournemouth to be arrogance mate. Fair enough if you lose narrowly like Chelsea and United did. But if you spend that much money on a squad and it gets hammered 4-0 by a squad that cost less than £5m, then thats just horrible business! The fact that you expected a 4-0 hammering against Bournemouth is........well....****ed up.
You are basing everything on costs and money. If these players in the fringes (I don't care whether they are Chelsea or United or cost £30M) do not play regular first team football you cannot put 10 of them up against a good regular team and say we can't lose heavily against them. They score 1 goal and you start chasing it and you end up at the ned of a thrashing. Not a surprise. You mention Bournemouth as if they should not be breathing the same air as Chelsea and United never mind being the same league. Bournemouth may not be as rich as you and United but they play great football.
