So in other words re transfers. From here on any player can decide to leave. Pick their preferred club and regardless what pennies the buying club then offer, we have to accept. What a load of bollix. Send our lot to the Daniel Leavy how to negotiate a sale school quickly before they give away the rest of the Crown Jewels

Sorry Doc, but I think good riddance, let’s see if the new GK coach improves Meslier in positional awareness.

With all the talk about marquee strikers, heres one out of left field because stories emerging that a prem club is trying to get Raúl de Tomás from Espanyol. This guy scores for fun and has done for years. Hes on a long contract but his value is circa £22m. I mention this bloke because Orta has been doing deals with this club and where we got Mateo Joseph Fernandez from, its also probably where Kiko will end up. If hes on the move dont fk about get him :emoticon-0148-yes:

That doesn’t mean we have to accept their offer. Like Brighton have done, meet our asking price or foxtrot oscar, they did the same with Ben White.

Or the club call their bluff and say let’s see if Barcelona and Man City have moved to different targets to you in two years time.

We didn’t get more because we always undersell, think 5 million for Pontus. I’ve already said that the Harrison bid is a joke for a player that has proved he can score in the premier league and suspect it was placed because we roll over so much. Let’s put this into perspective, Brighton are getting 52.6 million pounds (not euro’s) for a left back. That’s more than our England international midfielder and more than a Brazilian international that took the league by storm and sold to one of the world’s most successful clubs. Personally I don’t think Orta is playing hard ball enough in the negotiations.

I agree we undersell in general. Brighton bought cucurella for 15m on a 5 year deal last summer. Tidy profit. It’s the deal length and the depth of the selling clubs pockets that dictate how hardball your can be in negotiations.

The thing is Eire we could play hardball, but have a player who sulks and counts down his contract and we get **** all at the end of it. Also we may have needed a quick sale so we could get a new player in quickly as a replacement. It's easy for the likes of Spurs and city to dig their heels in because they have the finances and players to step in. Player/agent power unfortunately rule. <ok>

True, but like any sale, you’ve also got to think about how much the player and the buying club want the deal to happen. Barcelona paid over 50 million for lewandowski and he was in the last year of his contract.

It was more about the amount paid for him in the last year of his contract. They didn’t wait a year for him to run it down and get him for nothing.

And that's my point. No matter how many other clubs may have expressed an interest, or even submitted an offer, we really only had one buyer.

Yes and no it's not a "load of bollix"

What's different now is the insanely high value of players. If you have a player with a high market value and he wants to leave, you need to cash in on him ASAP. Because otherwise you'll quickly see than value disappear before your eyes.
To survive long term in the EPL, you need to spend big and most clubs are like Leeds, in that they need to sell big in order to spend big.
Similarly, if a player is on high wages, you want a return on that and few clubs can watch an expensive star player, on say £200k a week, rot in the reserves.

So yes, if we have a petulant player, on say £20k a week, and not really a first XI starter, we can let him "rot in the reserves" - but this wasn't the case for either Phillips or Raphinha.

    Always undersell ?

We've just rejected £33m for Harrison - is that what you mean by "always underselling" ?

In Brighton's case (and with Leeds in Harrison's case) they hold all the cards:
    1. Player under contracts for at least a couple of years
    2. Player not pushing for a move
    3. Club not wanting or needing to sell

In Pontus' case we (Leeds) DID want/need to sell and before the end of the rapidly closing transfer window. And £5m was the best deal would could get in the limited time we had.

Same with Leicester, they hold all the cards with Maddison, so they can reject a reported £40m bid from Newcastle. Now if the situation was different in that:

    1. He had only a year or less on his contracts OR
    2. He was demanding a move OR
    3. Leicester needed the $$$ to afford urgently needed signings or to meet FFP restrictions

The the situation would be different altogether.

Once you get down to the lsst two years of a contract its a tipping point which falls in favour of the player and theprice starts falling like a stone unless the player is a worldy playing out of his skin. For example Lewandowski into the last year but sold for £50m but the number of players going fir £5m in the last year is scary. So many players this last two seasons have refused new contracts and then walked away for free. Top European clubs have had a field day. Brighton buy a player and give him a 5yr deal and the gamble works for them because the player has a good season and is sold for big money due to still having 4 years, but even then the club refused until the player put in a request which then costs the player. The club are holding all the cards but when it gets to 2 years the cards fall in favour of players.
