Yes mate and the reason nobody puts in a transfer request until they are desperate. Piaxoa a point in case as he accepted a deal with Marseille which has now died and he could ask to leave but is waiting for Leeds or someone else to come in and his club have accepted he will probably leave. Gibbs-White is a biggy because the Forest owner have said they are not selling him to Spurs even though they offered the release value but you watch what happens if Gibbs-White asked to leave and go to Spurs. They will say ok and by doing that don’t have to pay the player 10% or 20% therefore getting all the £60m release value

Not quite. What he loses out on is any part of the bonus that we offered him when he renewed his contract as that is normally paid over the length of his contract.

So if we offered him £5 million to sign a new contract for 5 years, which is paid at £1m per year. 2 years later he asks for a transfer, giving up his contractual right to the remaining £3m bonus payment. If the club sold him without him asking for a transfer, then the club would be obliged to pay the remaining bonuses outstanding from his contract.

Of course his new club says come and join us and we will pay you a signing on fee of £10 million over 5 years, so he is giving up a £1m yearly bonus from us for a £2m yearly bonus from another club.

Obviously the above figures are just used as an example as I've no idea what bonuses he is getting from us or been offered elsewhere.

Now of course if you are meaning does he lose out on receiving any % of the transfer fee that we receive for him. The easy answer is yes. The slightly less easier answer is yes, but his new club adds that onto the signing on fee they are paying the player.

The most likely answer though is that it probably makes no difference. Whilst it was a common situation when players wages were just high compared to most salaries, that the selling club would pay a % of transfer monies received to a player they sold. However as footballers salaries have increased to such mega heights, it has become less common, unless that player is such a marquee signing for a club, that they are able to negotiate a % sell on clause within their contract.

My original Strongbow away blue shirt is hanging on the ceiling of a Turkish bar ... had RIO on the back, so perfect place to have left it
