Think he had already been to Cardiff and was signed etc, went back to say goodbye and collect some things when his plane crashed. What happens with the Pizza after they deliver it is nothing to do with the supplier.Try telling them you dropped it the day after,so can you have your money back, not going to work that one.
Most expensive Pizza in the world and by the sounds of it the pizza has been found and brought to the surface and now lies in Portland for an autopsy.
There's a thread on the Cardiff forum about the demand for payment and in most respects, it's agreed the fee should be paid - but it's not as simple as that. Apart from the transfer fee, CCFC still have an obligation to pay his 3.5 year contract wages that he would have earned had he not been lost - that's probably another £10M plus bonuses and have obviously lost any sell on value that could have been considered. There is no question he'd signed on the dotted line for CCFC, but completed registrations of the player with the FAW, FA and FIFA needs to be confirmed and that can take days after the signature. There was no Cardiff game for 10 days when he signed so there was no rush at the time. "Ownership of the commodity" (terrible expression) has to be irrefutably established before any payments are made by club or insurers, and that includes the obscene amounts due to the sponging agents involved - apparently there's 3 of the bastards claiming dosh. Overall it's been estimated that the whole package including wages etc had a value of £31M. Against that CCFC has a rolling £16M life insurance policy against all it's players, but a question remains as to whether Sala needed to be named on it before his dissappearance or whether his signature was enough - all very complicated.
Reading this I actually feel for your Fans. The above will open up a whole bag of worms add to the three agents, the lawyers who will be rubbing their hands at their potential income. This I can see running for some time you have my sympathy
Not so sure about his wages. His contract is a 2 way exchange, basically. He gets paid money for having the skills etc. that make him available for selection. He isn't available for selection, so no pay. Look at it another way - if he failed to turn up for training, he'd be fined 2 weeks wages every time. (Too soon?). Basically, by not turning up, he'd be in breach of contract, so termination is an option. Not pleasant, whichever way you look at it.
My understanding is that if the player cost £15m the club would as a matter of course insure the player for the £15m but enhance it to cover the clubs future costs and asset for example he has a book value of £15m for the term of his contract but he has a future value too. £15m cost written down over say 3 years but as a valuable asset he has a book value of at least £15m so the club should have insured him for at least £30m He should have personal insurance in the event he had a career ending injury, so obviously you would hope that he had sorted that or if overseas players have to use the PFA scheme? Hope he was personally insured as his family will be the benefactors
You're right to certain extent about the wage committment WJ. A player does have to do everything in his power to make himself available for selection for the duration of his contracted term otherwise wages can be withheld under a "breach of contract" clause, but that hardly applies to Sala. Our understanding is that subject to official ratification he was registered as a CCFC player, the contract stands including a substantial bonus for retaining Premier League status this season that will fall due should it happen. One further thing that has come out of the woodwork since is that McKay reckons he negotiated a £1M signing on fee to be paid directly to Sala's mother. He signed the contract - so she's entitled to it. Where is it all going to end other than to make fat wallets for the legal boys involved - apart from the tragic circumstances, it makes a mockery of the game for the down to earth fan base that supports it.
Interesting point about insuring future committments Doc, but I don't think that normally happens and wasn't the case on this occasion. All we are led to believe is that there is rolling personal injury/death cover taken out by the club for it's players to a maximium of £16M payment per occurance. As far as Sala's own personal insurance position is concerned - haven't got a clue.
Welcome back fella. Horrible position for both clubs to be in, but aren't players insured by their club? What if your star player breaks his leg badly and has to retire? please log in to view this image
Cheers Elland - see my reply #48 to Doc. All players are insured for injury/death as we understand it to the tune of £16M max per occurance. I would presume a career ending injury would attract somewhat less but nevertheless substantial cover.
Look a bit further back on the thread Elland - post #43. It's reckoned our committment is more like £31M all in. The £16M insurance payout will help but even that is subject to question as I explained said in the last paragraph of that post.
Yes, especially the bigger clubs will have someone on their payroll where all they do is insure their players
