My take. play for enjoyment. Life gets serious soon enough. If you’re good enough and have the mindset then great. If not you’ve enjoyed the ride. My boy turned down a chance to play for the local academy. It was the right choice, he likes football but he’s not football mad and he wasn't stand out. I let him make the decision. The academy coach was ‘surprised’ to put it mildly. Don’t think it happens that often!
