Leeds United’s Rodrigo set for two months out after surgery on ankle injury

Leeds United forward Rodrigo faces two months on the sidelines after undergoing minor surgery on an ankle injury.

Leeds issued an update on Rodrigo’s injury status on Thursday, confirming that the 31-year-old — Leeds’ top scorer this season — had suffered bone and ligament damage to his ankle.

Rodrigo sustained the injury in a challenge during Leeds’ 3-1 FA Cup fourth-round win at Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

The Spain international had to be withdrawn in the 69th minute and was replaced by Luis Sinisterra.

Leeds play 10 matches between now and April 1, with Rodrigo seemingly at risk of missing a very busy period in their season which includes games against fellow relegation contenders Everton, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Jesse March’s side sit 15th in the Premier League table and are one point above the relegation zone.

Leeds did bring in a forward during the January transfer window, with Georginio Rutter joining for a club-record fee from German side Hoffenheim.

Leeds are back in Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to Nottingham Forest.

Charges of attempted rape and assault have been dropped against Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood.
The Crown Prosecution Service said the charges were discontinued after key witnesses withdrew their involvement.
"In this case, a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case.
