The original idea has a lot of merit so if I may I'll propose my version. Currently the winner of group A plays plays second in group B and vice versa. This is then repeated through groups C&D, E&F, G&H. My proposal is that the winner of groups A&B with the best record gets the choice of who to play. So for example Uruguay won group A with 9 points whereas Spain won group B with 5 points. Uruguay therefore have the choice of whom to play from the 2 teams which qualified from group B. And so on and so forth through the rest of the paired groups. In my opinion this gives a real incentive to not only win your group but also the one you are aligned with for the Round of 16 matches. France for example would have needed to win their final group game against Denmark rather than being happy with a 0-0 draw and exactly the same for England and Belgium.
If you're not going to take it seriously you can go back to the BBQ and continue with the Coronas. Oh and where is my parking pass you thieving barsteward ?
Belated good morning which should read evening now. Been in one of those incredibly tedious all day company conferences where a bunch of senior exec bleat on about how we are going to take the company forward. The afternoon consisted of a 2 hour interactive session about unconscious bias - what a load of old bowlocks! Things would certainly look different if we do manage to get some quality signings done very soon.
Over complicated. There was a day off, all the winners of their group got into one pot and all the second place go into theirs. You then just draw so that every winner gets a 2nd place finisher, they just don't know which ones.
As there are 3 days between groups A&B finishing and the last groups G&H one days rest doesn't come close to balancing that from a sporting perspective. Perhaps I should have added that once the 2 aligned group have finished their group fixtures (always the same day) the winners have 1 hour after the matches in their respective groups have finished to choose their Round of 16 opponents. No waiting around for other groups to complete on following days. Quick easy and rewards sporting achievement so nothing complicated at all. Obviously the first groups to complete wouldn't know how the rest of the groups will finish or decide to act which will just add to the intrigue in my opinion.
Just to clear one thing up. Cibicki are going Molde and not Malmo for a 6 month loan. Molde is in Norway and Malmo is in Sweden. It`s only 650 miles apart
Beautiful country Norway but have no recollection of Molde other than I drove through it numerous times. Oh and the exes sister lived there so maybe that's why I kept on trucking.
I was being serious! Parking pass? Whoops, thought that was a day thing, said to Keith he can have it as a souvenir Pm me your address and I’ll get it back if I remember
