Won't argue with the save % thing, that's what it is.

But the guy who made the post pointing out the xg issue doesn't have a clue.

Our actual goals against is 1.0 per 90 minutes of football and yet the stat he quotes says we should have conceded more, hence the defence as a whole is performing better than the stats people expect. 1.05 xga means we should have conceded 21 goals, as opposed to the 20 we have conceded, so far this season ;)

Meslier has many faults, but if people are going to make posts on social media, they need to make sure the stat they are relying upon supports their argument.

Shackelton out injured along with Byram who won’t be back until January, Firpo already out so there’s 3 LB options screwed. Some players have flu including Bamford who hasnt trained yet but being assessed this afternoon. I would say we are bare bones at the back now and Afrke not saying what the team will be as there are still some knocks, which probably means no Ayling still too.

as the forum’s resident xg bore (the ‘xg’ probably superfluous in that sentence) - you are correct

the save % means he hasn’t saved much, the xg against says the opposition should have scored (slightly) more than they have.

the two things don’t actually contradict each other

… the opposition have got into good positions to score and not done so as often as they should. The reason isn’t that our keeper is making a lot of saves… In fact they’re scoring regularly if they hit the target. So the opposition strikers are missing the target a lot.

Does either stat suggest mes is a good or bad keeper? Not really. Not over less than half a season. Save % and xgA (when you only look at shots on target) over a long period of time is just a supporting factor to go together with eye test.

Now seems likely we will bring in a LB or defender who can play anywhere in the back 4. I mentioned on the weekend thread that Ben Godfrey is being spoken about again. Local lad, FARKE protege at Norwich and helped them to promotion as well as England call up. Sold to Everton for £20m and played well in a poor Everton team. A CB but Played mainly at LB for them but only played once this season as he fell out with Dyche. Could be loan to buy/negotiate as they have Harrison?

Shakleton/byram/firpo are never fit for long. Relying on bringing byram in was a gamble too far and now likely to blow up in our faces.ayling it seems is finished too.bad recruiting is all it is.

Yeah Connor Ferguson 19yo but is he ready for facing Sunderland. I’m sure Niall Huggins if he starts at RWB will love him and Jack Clarke bombing down their right wing into young Connor
