On Dan James I thought he was great and when he went to Lancashire he looked like a £70m player and had chances in every game, some of which he took. So a great start but then the wheels fell off and he became Aidy White running into dead ends with no end product, missing sitters and looking like a £1m player. If Bielsa still has the hots for him I think if we can get him on loan it will be a good move. I agree that we seem to have been linked to every midfielder in the world however its actually only the very good ones. The latest young Dutch kid I have never heard of but if hes the fella Bielsa wants thats good enough for me. i still think the guy we sign we will know who he is
I'm from up that way. Was cold this morning. I'm starting to panic as the wife mentioned putting the heating on. She's only the one jumper on though so might be ok for a month yet.
I think his U23s money is starting to show fruits, Poveda, Meslier and struijk, we're all U23 signings and would probably have cost £20 million if we had to buy them now. Money spent on youth teams doesn't come under ffp either.
Agree and he was on fire when he first went to Manchester. Bielsa has seen something in him and if he wants him let’s take him. I don’t know why he went downhill but their loss could be our gain.
Thats actually a great shout especially this window as we have brought in Darmah, Gelhardt, Greenwood and Summerville who may all end up playing in the first team this season. Imagine the value of these 4 next season. We got Poveda on a free and he is one of the most exiting talents in the club. Nohan Kenneh is scary and every top club wants him but only 17 and will probably captain England.
only struijk was bought that first year... which is what I was referring to. He tried to follow the Seville model which many of us said at the time is great if you have the cash. We didn’t. We offloaded the vast majority last summer. Radz himself said it was a costly mistake and a learning curve. Where we are now is fantastic, but the first year was a Horlicks. They needed to learn fast and they did so fair play - but if we’re honest, bielsa was a throw of the dice. I give them great credit for doing what they had to to make that throw of the dice work.. by pandering to MB’s idiosyncrasies and giving him everything he asked for. great time to be a Leeds fan and I think most of us are thankful for the 3 amigos for that.
Milky you seem to forget the money we made in player sales last Summer for U23s. yes I was even dissapointed to see a player like Hugo Diaz be released but he was released as a thank you for his service and the job he did skippering the U23s to be all conquering. Barnsley bought 3 of our players, Watford 1, Forest Green 1, 2 went to Spain along with another 2 who are out there on loan. To improve this seasons batch we had to have a cull as they are all on wages but we released only a couple and the rest were sold for cash, and all at a profit mate
Chesh the plan has always been to play the syatem, which means we bring in players which do not go into the FFFP rules and some will make it through to save the club on transfer fees and some will pay their way by being sold for cash to balance the books and a few will fail and be released its a business
I haven’t forgotten fella... we had this discussion last year and let’s just agree to disagree on what constitutes a profit. When you pay someone 2 years wages, invest in their training and sell them on for a minor paper profit before agents fees etc, that’s not great business in my opinion... It’s a waste of effort. And they didn’t all show a paper profit. Farming youth is a numbers game and a business as you say. We rushed into it and then fire sold them 2 years later. But it’s not really the point I was making. I completely agree with the philosophy of the Seville method that orta brings to the party re farming young talent. It just wasn’t the right time to do it (to be fair, the u23s had been decimated by mad nutter Italian so I can see the logic just not the timing). That money was tied up for the two years we had all these u23s before last summer’s fire sale - and it restricted investment where we needed it... in the first team.. something that has been admitted by radz. Filling the 23s with more expensive, but more ‘proven’ talent now, when we can afford it, I’m completely in support of.
Adam Forshaw had suffered a setback in training and would not feature in the first team until at least November.
