well you never see ‘evidence’ of offers from clubs. It was widely reported that there were better bids on the table. Fab romano checks his sources and made that statement. One was believed to be psg.

There were a whole host of clubs interested in him. He’s a terrific footballer for any side playing with 1dm, I do agree that in a dual pivot system he’s less critical.

As for Jesse’s signings. We went for sinisterra not Lang. That’s on orta. We went for roca not nandez that’s on orta. Aaronson was coming anyway (but probably via a jm reference back in Jan). Christianson and Adams are clearly marsch calls. Sounds like we have a mix of dm and manager recommendations which is as it should be.

that said it’s marsch’s team and he’ll have had the full pre-season… so there’s no excuses - just a fair caveat that we’ve sold our two best players so expectations should be set accordingly.

They won’t be of course… if we’re not in the top 6 all year the anti- marsch brigade will be apoplectic. Some have started already

 

Again, it depends who, if it’s just adding depth and we get no injuries we’re not really moving forward. If we get someone better than Firpo and better than Bamford then great. All these attackers we’ve brought in so far could easily be no better than Roberts.

I wished for someone better than Alioski, we were all excited by Firpo, a few months later we wished for Alioski back

 

Before my post I did quite a bit of searching, PSG was a fake rumour, Newcastle, Liverpool and West Ham asked on availability, Liverpool was unconfirmed. The club wanted a bidding war between the two sides of Manchester, KP said he could never play for the red half

 

I just find it a bit insulting to the players who actually played the whole season and got us into a position that enabled us to stay safe. Anyway he's gone and life goes on.

 

My stance on Phillips.

He's not world class. The single thing that impedes him is a lack of pace, particularly over 5 yards.

We can talk about his calmness on the ball, his accuracy over the 30-40 yard balls, his interceptions etc. Its all stuff that's been said before. His real strength is that he makes all those around him better players. He gives options but more importantly he has the intelligence to recognise danger before it happens. I've rarely seen someone read the defensive part of the game as well as he does.

He'll be a huge miss and its probably best shown by the way we have to put two players in that role going forward.

The fact he missed a huge part of last season actually helps the transition. That's why I feel we will be stronger in the middle this season. If we'd have had a fully fit and firing Phillips in the side last season we wouldn't have been so close to going down.

Saying all that, he's gone. So maybe we got the best years of him. Injuries had certainly started to become more common. I feel we were a little cheated that he went so cheap.

Clubs obviously make enquiries on loads of players all the time and it doesn’t mean they are serious, often they’re just weighing up options... but it also doesn’t mean they aren’t serious if the message they get back is the player isn’t interested. It’s kp who’s talking up the Man U bit because he’s trying to curry favour with Leeds fans. Actually I think it’s selfish and bullshit. What he’s saying is he didn’t want him and his family to get abuse (which I understand)… but the best thing for Leeds as a club was for him to go to the club that offered the most money. Whoever it was.

I took the romano comments seriously because he has a rep for checking his sources directly with clubs. He said there were better offers on the table. Fine you don’t want to believe it. I don’t know if he’s correct and I can’t prove it anymore than I could with any player. What he did say was that Phillips made it clear it was city or no-one. When you look at him mateying with grealish, sacking his agent… it stinks of them taking competition out of it and allowing city to low ball… no doubt increasing signing-on fees and agents fees at the expense of transfer fee to the club.

Phil hay will write a retrospective ‘in the know piece’ that tells us how it all played out.. after the event

 

As far as I’m concerned what’s gone is gone end of, come the opening game against wolves 1 minute to kick off time the slate is wiped clean and I wish all the team,manager,Orta and Radz the best of luck Jesse has had time to get his methods across so we will soon

First 6 games on a like for like basis with last season we amassed the grand total of 6 points from a possible 18 scored 4 and conceded 9 don’t have to do that much to show improvement
