Seems to be working for Fulham so far. Fraught with danger of course. However if every season is to be a relegation battle the entertainment value won't be great

Fulham kept the mainstay of their squad. We'd be left with the old guard and kids, doubt we'd be in the same position as Fulham.

Do you honestly think he'd walk out on Brentford to manage us <laugh> Our next manager is likely currently unemployed

Either way a large squad rebuild will be required if were ever going to be able to compete even in the middle of this league. If were a division below it'll be a more modest one obviously but might suit the financial setup at the club better. Its all very well pulling in the magic 140m a year pl money but its virtually irrelevant when the players get 85% of it in salaries and bonuses

But the idea would be to get back up to the PL, where players will again be getting 85% of the income. The only way we're going to improve imo is to stay in this league where we would be a better attraction to someone who wants to invest in a PL club, not a skint championship one, let's not forget, there was talk that if we hadn't gone up when we did we would have had to sell half the squad to pay off debts. I just feel it's too much of a risk to rely on us doing well if we went down again, took 16 years last time.

The consequences of not investing heavily after finishing 9th are now clear for all to see. No top manager, or even half decent one will be making themselves available. Even the ones out of work aren't interested and we're now a going nowhere club.

The exact same applies to trying to get a striker in as well.

All of which means we'll have to make do with what we've got (as always) and hope that a Dyche type (may as well be Big Sam) can come in and somehow keep us in the PL.

This is why most of us who loved Bielsa knew that it was Marcelo and Marcelo alone that changed the perception of our club and made us relevant again.

Sacking him was an absolute travesty, because no matter what division we competed in with Bielsa at the helm we had style, charisma and class.

Great post Jammy. Bielsa surely though wasn't staying another season with us anyway probably due to his age and being so far from home, so wed be in this position now anyway as Jesse seemed to have been lined up for the summer

Surely we just needed Bielsaball but drop man to man marking. This is what I fail to understand with Orta. He told Jesse he was top of the list yet he plays a completely different style to Bielsa

After our first season back in the PL we could have attracted a whole host of top players and coaches, we’ve destroyed all that

True, i was so looking forward to us progressing and building on such a solid foundation, always shocked me that on a whole we took a chance and stuck with what we had, no upgrades in certain areas of the pitch were forth coming, and then the injuries, with very poor coaching decisions, which even more highlighted the poor recruitment at the time, and i guess as they say the rest is history.
Basically blew it by taking a chance on the cheap.

I agree with most of your post. But not about getting a mercenary striker in. Rads needs to up the budget from net zero to ground hero. It's sad but pay a striker enough and he will forget all about his ambition.
So now we will see what happens next few games with Marsch.

Money is a great attraction in the premier League. Just wave the money and they will come running.

It's patently clear that Marsch is inexperienced at this level and needs to go, we need a coach with Premiership experience.
How about we break the bank and sign Thomas Tuchel, he's certainly experienced and he is a winner........answers on a postcard. :emoticon-0100-smile
