There's still hope lads, keep the faith Geordies beat Burnley, we nick a draw at Brentford But if we do get relegated look on the bright side, we will be able to get tickets for games and the stockpiled prawn sandwiches will be half price until we're back in the prem
Grayson did have decent defenders available to him but never sorted out the defence. Too busy shagging his secretary.
Yeah Bates was selling left-right and centre but Grayson could spot talent a mile off. He brought in Scheimel when he was in league 2, Somma who was a nobody and Gradel who was struggling to get into a Championship Leicester side.
The figures mentioned below were all correct on 27 April this year. The average size of a Premier League squad this season (aged 22+) was 21. We used 18 players aged 22 or over this season. Arsenal used 17, Villa, Spurs and Brighton used the same as us. Man City, Wolves and Norwich used 19 senior players (ie one more than us). That's 33% of the total number of the Premier League that used a similar number of players aged 22+ than ourselves, so the idea of an 18 man squad is not totally flawed. The big difference between us and the other 7 teams listed, is that apart from Norwich, are the number of injuries those teams suffered to their first team squad, and the quality of those individual players being overall better than our own. Only 20 players (3 aged 21 or under) of any age made an appearance for Arsenal this season, followed by Spurs and Aston Villa, who used a total of 21 players (both teams had 3 players aged 21 or under). We had to use a total of 27 players this season, the most for any team in the Premier League, which was matched by Newcastle, Watford and Everton. The big difference between us and the other three teams is that we had to use 9 players aged 21 or under. So three of the four teams that have used the most players this season, have been battling against relegation. Now it could be argued that due to the training regime under Bielsa, or the style of how we played, that we would suffer more than the average number of injuries, thus requiring a bigger squad of more senior players, but I am sure we would be happy to swap positions with all of those teams who used a similar number of senior players as ourselves (apart from Norwich of course ), thus suggesting that its not so much about the number of senior players that we have, but more indicative of improving the quality of those players
So you think Grayson was as good as Bielsa, if that's the case there is no point in carrying on this conversation.
once the other teams had matched us for running and fitness it was all over they had superior players and better squads....we had been found out simples, and as much as he turned the club around into an upward trajectory he sadly couldn't change his own ideas/tactics....never forgotten but he just stagnated, not interested in injuries etc that happens to every club, i'm afraid there is a lot of culpability from the entire top to bottom of this club....it's now out of our hands after thugs draw and the goal diff is the key, hopefully for once we get the roll of the dice...side before self
The best way of describing it, is to quote pundit Jason Cundy:- “Their defeats… they don’t just get beaten, they get annihilated,” “I think there is a naivety about Bielsa. He’s an intelligent man, he clearly knows what he’s doing… “There’s an arrogance there as well. ‘I’ll play football this way, I don’t care what you think, I’ll do it my way.’ “That’s all well and good but when results don’t go your way and you get beaten seven and six and concede goals the way you do people are going to look at you and go ‘no, that’s just not quite right.’”
Who the **** is jason ****y. **** these so called pundits. We got well beaten by top six sides with an injury hit squad. I don't think Pep would have got anything against those sides if he had the same players as Bielsa.
