or Tami Oluwaseyi 24 year old Canadian striker, plays for Minnesota United

Scored 16 goals in 25 appearances on loan for San Antonio FC in 2023, although only has 8 goals in 25 appearances in 2024 for Minnesota

Contract expires December 2024 and is valued at €3m

No idea about his style of play or anything, but as an added bonus for Emu and Milky, all of his 8 Canadian caps have been courtesy of Jesse Marsch ;)

With respect the MLS is a poor league so I’m sceptical about his quality for the championship.

Exactly. We have full time scouts and directors of football paid a fortune to do exactly the job of finding players.

there could be no greater endorsement. Canada are the form team in world football now they have an a-list manager - sign him up!

Playing in MLS. Could be available for a loan to keep him sharp for the world cup qualifiers starting after Christmas.

Plenty of players have made the move to Europe and had success. You're just being defeatist.

That's the order of the top 10 strongest leagues. I'm not sure what you mean by that's the order ?.

What I mean is that it doesn’t tell you what the gulf in the quality is. I’d suggest that the gap in class between the top five European leagues and the MLS is massive (not that I know the criteria used to determine the list).

There’s a bunch of these different rankings about. The top 5 are miles ahead of the rest.

It's based on the individual ranking of each team in the league (as decided by OPTA) so that teams from different leagues can be compared to each other. The league ranking is then based on the average rankings of all the teams in the league.

Thus the top ranked MLS team is L A Galaxy, who are ranked 88th in the world and deemed to be equivalent to Wolves, Dyamo Zagreb Anderlecht.

Just below them in 94th place are Inter Miami, Wolfsburg, Borussia M'Gladbach, Olympiacos, Celta de Vigo with ourselves in 99th.

Orlando City and Seattle Sounders are the next MLS clubs ranked at 127th and 133rd with the next 2 championship clubs being Burnley ranked at 138th then Sheffield United at 157th

Obviously with 4 MLS clubs ranked individually higher than the other 23 Championship clubs, this probably helps that their league is therefore ranked higher than the Championship.

Of course that means we are reliant upon OPTA's system being reasonable and fair without knowing the full criteria of that ranking, but without any real alternatives, the rankings are based on 13,000 mens football teams throughout the world as at August 2024, so it's the best we have.

Now of course it could all be bullshit given that OPTA rank us higher than the 3 clubs who got promoted from the Championship last season, with Leicester ranked 119th, Ipswich ranked 144th and Southampton at 186th.

But the point both myself and Emu were making is that there are plenty of leagues that shutdown as the January transfer window opens, ie the Danish Superliga is closed from beginning of December to end of February, so there will be opportunities for clubs to acquire players. Obviously given the level we operate at there is a fine balance between quality and financial risk. Of course the club might agree with your assessment and decide there are no available players from the MLS that are good enough at the level required, in which case unless we can move one of our strikers on we are left with what we have.

The issue of course is that when we don't score, we lay the blame on the guy up front. The question tactically is whether you want a main striker who scores the majority of your goals ie 30, with the rest of your forward line up chipping in with 15/20 goals between them, or whether we have 5 players who each score 10 goals each. Both systems have their pros and cons

I would be happy with anyone that could score. Don’t see how OPTA can use a system to compare leagues when they don’t play against each other so all very subjective. I go with the, champions league is always contested by clubs from the best European leagues. Their version (Copa America I believe, I think American teams play in this, could be wrong) nearly always won by a Brazilian club, usually playing Argentinian teams in the semi finals and that team is usually comprehensively beaten by the European champions in the club World Cup.

oh I agree its subjective, but isn't the opinion of either myself or yours as well. We both use the best data or real life experience we have available to form an opinion.

As Milky said the top 5 leagues are well ahead of every other league, in fact some would say its a top 1 league followed by 4 other leagues, but we are not looking to sign a player that is likely to be playing for a club that competes in the Club World Cup, we are looking at a player who can possibly play at Championship level for 4/5 months that won't require a transfer fee :)

Anyways game has started so lets forget this and concentrate on the game :emoticon-0148-yes:
