I thought about them the other day when they refused to sell us Ben White as they saw us then as a relegation rival
Brentford did the same sort of thing when they signed Jansson. They made a big song n dance that they got one over on Leeds.
Definetly, how the hell do you find gems like Marc Cucurella for 15m a good runner/crosser of the ball, they also have some other top quality in their side eg Dunk,Lampty,Trossard etc with a solid coach, . Mind you we have picked up a few in recent years Saize,Hernandez,Alioski but all gone and never replaced with equal or better quality. just goes to show how poor our scouting network is.
Then again, their Chairman has been there since 2009, the CEO and Head of Player recruitment have been there since 2014. Their Director of Football ( who left in February 2022 to join Newcastle) worked for the FA elite development team, before joining Brighton in 2018. They employ four scouting managers, one of those has been there since GFH were in control of ourselves, one appointed whilst Cellino was in charge, and the other two appointed in 2019. So when Bloom took over the club, we had Bates in charge. When their current CEO was appointed we had GFH in charge. It's taken Bloom 13 years to get the setup that they have at Brighton. Since 2014 they have had two permanent managers, we are on our fourth in 5 years. Radz has been here just nearly 5 years, at which time, we had no academy and no scouting network. We now employ two senior scouting managers, and the academy has improved, but from an infrastructure point of view, we are still way behind what Brighton, and other clubs that have had a period of consistency both within the board room, coaching and backroom staff have been able to achieve. The above is not a defence of Radz, Orta or Bielsa, they will all have some responsibility towards the situation that we find ourselves in, but is more a realistic view of the situation that we are trying to compete in off the field as well as on the pitch. The club needs a sustained period of stability, however whether we will get that given the increased involvement of SF49's, which if they take over will see the structure change again (whether for good or bad who can say), and whether we as fans are prepared to accept that ( posts on here would suggest not) then we will probably be debating the direction of the club, the quality of signings, the style of football etc, for a good number of years, unless someone with a bottomless pit of money wants to spend their children's inheritance on a project such as ourselves
Sf49ers probably know even less about English football than radz and orta if that’s even possible. What’s cellino at these days. Anyway pints in Leeds very tasty. Now to spread my footballing knowledge with the locals
Cellino owns Brescia Calcio, who are playing the Serie B play off game this evening, so maybe you can find that to watch whilst enjoying your pint and getting ready for the races. He's been the owner of Brescia since 2017, a month after selling us to Radz, and so far he's gone through 13 managers, with the guy currently in charge having been temporary manager on two other occasions.
Chelsea never got out of second gear against us. They didn't need to. We were that bad. Think about the basics - keep it tight early on and no rash challenges.
