Last two players to leave were guys on contracts that were coming to an end. From timing more than anything else they just came up for renewal last year at a time when the club was tightening purse strings. In roofe’s case he sees Bamford on more money, and the side does better when roofe plays... but the club can't or won’t match it.

Both the last two players are also saleable assets to realise some cash.

Why is it always the greedy player and greedy agent? They have to look after their interests. Anderlecht have a value for roofe are prepared to pay him accordingly, Leeds weren’t. I’m not blaming the club, if we have a lower valuation of the worth of the player or we simply can’t afford it... then so be it.

I get the ‘no longer a Leeds player, not interested’ argument, but the blame game thing? Nah.

Roofe's getting more money in a poorer league and his agent is making a killing. If he doesn't want to be at Leeds he can get for me.

Where am I moaning about the lengths of the contracts. I’m saying it’s circumstantial.

Is it not a possibility that the club knew they could sell him for decent money, so never offered him a decent contract, because they need the cash?

Too easy to blame the players. Most of them are pawns in the game. They get bought and sold like meat. The club will chuck them in the scrap heap when they want to. But fans expect loyalty from players. Agents job is to get the best deal for a player and obviously therefore themselves. I don’t like the role they play in unsettling players BUT....

If you work for a baker, and your fellow baker is on twice the money you are, you're going to feel undervalued. If the bakers in the town next door offer to double your money, you'd take it. Every single one of you.

We’re fans we see the sport, for these guys it’s their job.

    Quit ya bitchin’ boys <cheers>

    I'm not bitchin'.

Kemar has been offered more money and decided to take it, no problem with that. But he's chosen the money over Leeds, so he can GTF as far as I'm concerned.

I support Leeds United, not Kemar Roofe - if he ain't Leeds anymore, he's nobody.

    <cheers>

like I said Davy, I get that attitude, just not the blame one.

His first choice may have been to stay at Leeds...

You weren't moaning about contracts Milky and I wasn't having a go at you personally. It was a general observation on my part, regarding some supporters who moan if a player's contract is run down or a player who is given a long contract and we can't get him off the books. Hope that explanation works.<ok>

Objectively though I would say it’s possible to think contracts can in principle be both set too long and then run down too short!

Personally, I feel there are a lot of reasons why a contract may get run down so that it’s hard to generalise.

There are also some reasons why you would offer long term contracts to new signings... but on balance I felt we were chucking out long contracts too widely to too many who didn’t warrant it when Orta first came. Just my opinion... which I stand by... though one I probably complained about was Phillips

You are not alone with your thinking. The European scout seems to have the best success rate. Orta to me has set us back hence the clearout.

Contracts are changing because the asking price and wage demands can be too much nowadays, so contracts are being used to entice a player for a longer period but on a lower wage. One was signed by a Prem player last week for 6 years which was really all about getting the player who would want much more on a 3 year deal. Lets face it that Prem player will not be at the club in 6 years

Just seen that Brighton have signed Adam Webster from Bristol City for 20m. Pontus was only just behind Webster in the 2018/19 opta stats yet only Brentford were interested. Perhaps he has a bit of a dodgy reputation that has cost both him and us quite a lot of money.

We made money but perhaps we would have liked more, but a couple of million is not too bad.
