Went to a few pubs in New Cross and Deptford borders last night, the gaffs are still well dodgy.
Try Peckham. It has a bad rep but when I lived there about 25 years ago it was OK. I never saw any trouble.

The Spoons there is a shocker, some interesting characters in there.
The boozers there are not too bad, it's walking the streets that is a problem.
A couple of months ago I drove up Peckham High St. What an absolute s hithole. Women were walking up the centre of the road, with traffic on both sides, balancing shopping on their heads.
@ElfsborgAddick will be familiar with the Chatterton Arms.
Many of the locals in there are originally from Downham, but moved away to escape certain cultural situations.
There’s a Corals next to the Chatterton, and the Regulars move to and fro between pub & bookies, putting on bets & drinking.

The place is on a par with Croydon, but obviously a lot smaller.
Have you got trip advisors list of pubs in ****e holes by any chance ?
I’ve heard the Brazilian version is quite substantial
