    Update from the Guardian

    Rémy Newcastle United

Loïc Rémy, the Marseille striker, moved a step closer to joining Newcastle as Demba Ba's replacement on Monday when he reportedly rejected overtures from Harry Redknapp to sign for Queens Park Rangers.

Although other Premier League and Bundesliga clubs retain an interest in Rémy, Newcastle officials flew to the south of France over the weekend to negotiate a deal which could cost as much as £11m. A QPR delegation including Redknapp has also visited Marseille but the player's heart appears to be set on a future at St James' Park.

Although reports in France on Tuesday suggesting Remy had travelled to Tyneside to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical may have been premature, Newcastle aim to secure a deal sooner rather than later as they strive to pull clear of the relegation zone.

Alan Pardew is also exploring the possibility of bringing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the St Etienne forward, to Newcastle.

Looks as though Harry threw the kitchen sink at Remy to try to land him.....

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/qpr-fail-to-land-loic-remy-1523138

Harry's powers of persuasion couldn't convince the Frenchman that Newcastle isn't a better place to be

Harry Redknapp has failed in an attempt to hijack Newcastle's move for Loic Remy - even after offering Shaun Wright-Phillips as part of the deal.

QPR boss Redknapp tried to sign Marseille striker Remy when he was in charge at Tottenham and believes he is the striker to save QPR.

But Newcastle already have a deal in place for Remy and it is understood the versatile French international - who can play wide or through the middle - is reluctant to go to Loftus Road.

QPR are actually offering better terms - which include a player-plus-cash deal involving England winger Wright-Phillips - than Newcastle which has thrown a spanner in the works.

But Remy is still set on Newcastle which would give Pardew a massive boost having lost Demba Ba to Chelsea and crashed out of the FA Cup.

QPR have made loan enquiries for Tottenham midfielders Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore. But Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has knocked them back.

Fulham have also enquired after taking Huddlestone on loan and may now come back with a permanent deal. QPR may focus on Livermore, having missed out on Huddlestone.

There's word on twitter that Barton has done a cracking selling job to Remy on a transfer to the Toon.

A job after football as our French liason :)

He turned them down. Not saying he definitely isn't a merc, but he obviously cares about more than just a paycheck.

I think he might be persuaded to come to us for 50k a wek.

Any reason Remy has played 8 times this season and scored 0?

    http://blogs.bettor.com/Loic-Remy-set-to-seal-Newcastle-United-move-a212731

''The France international was hotly linked with a move to Queens Park Rangers but instead, a move to Newcastle United is set to become official within a few hours

For a long time, English Premier League entertainers, Newcastle United had been searching for a right replacement for prolific striker, Demba Ba who earlier in the January transfer window, secured a dream move to Chelsea FC where he has got off to a flying start.

A host of players were linked with a move to St. James’ Park and Olympique de Marseille striker, Loic Remy was one of those strikers whose profile seems to have impressed the fabled recruitment cell of the Magpies. And, manager Alan Pardew also feels that the former Olympique Lyonnais hitman is a perfect replacement for the departed Senegalese.

After already having secured the services of Mathieu Debuchy from Lille, Newcastle are reportedly on the verge of securing the services of another Ligue 1 talent in the form of Loic Remy who has constantly been linked with a move away from Stade Velodrome.

After falling down the pecking order to Andre-Pierre Gignac and even Jordan Ayew, Remy’s chances of proving his worth to manager Elie Baup had become slim due to persistent injury problems and a lifestyle that the former Toulouse tactician does not approve.

Only yesterday, the striker was approached by relegation threatened Queens Park Rangers. However, Remy chose to rebuff the London club’s advances despite the presence of a manager who has always been a big fan of him at the dugout.

Not really thrilled at the project at Loftus Road, the striker could ultimately join Newcastle United in the coming hours. Furthermore, the Magpies French contingent in the dressing room may also be the reason behind Remy’s preference to play under Pardew where the striker will be competing for a place in the starting line up with Papiss Cisse and Shola Ameobi.

Except for an unsusceptible surprise, Remy will be starting a new playing adventure at the Tyneside and will give Marseille an option to generate necessary transfer funds that Jose Anigo is looking for in order to bring in a few more fresh faces''

These articles do stir up a bit of excitement, but I'm not celebrating, or mutilating myself, until I see it on -

I didn't want to keep it to myself, just so that I'm not the only one disappointment when it's proven to be tosh.

    Sorry :)

He scored a couple in Europe. From what I hear he's been injured and also generally has wanted out (contract expiring and everything).

Everyone who's knowledgeable on french football talks him up massively though, so the talent must be there.
