The Saints were beaten by a very good team today but their winner didnt come from an Everton player (or Hooiveld).

It came from Lukaku who is on loan at Everton. In fact they have 2 other very good loan players on their books in Barry and Deulofeu.

Many clubs do it, Newcastle -another club above us in the table have a star player who is also on loan in Remy, Liverpool have Victor Moses and Cissokho.

Is it right that top premier league clubs should have loan players - the list is endless in other prem teams, Fulham have Bent,Taarabt and Dempsey, Hull have Livermore and Danny Graham, West Brom have a few in Sinclair and Vydra.

The Saints have of course loaned players in the lower leagues with good effect and currently there are a number out on loan, notably Punchon at Palace.

Should there be a premier league rule that says if you are big enough to play in the premier league then you shouldnt be able to take players on loan, either BUY your own f***ing players or develop players and bring them through the youth team.

This is not a new debate, just wondered what fellow saints felt, no rules are being broken so would you like to see Saints go out in January and bring some players in on loan.

With the world cup around the corner there could be a few players wanting a change and game time.

Do you want that or like me do you think the loan system for players to premier league teams should be scrapped.
 
You raise a valid point. There's also people who'd point out that teams like Chelsea will buy up young talent just to stop rivals getting hold of them. Then they loan them to mid table teams, but when that team comes to play them they are weakened. It does seem strange that there's not more guidelines, but I suppose we are able to do what Everton have done......I'm just pleased we haven't, instead we're given more youngsters ago like Sam G.
 
I'd quite like us to get a player on loan, so i'm not going to moan about the system.

Any suggestions Joe, a goalkeeper maybe?

I'm thinking if you can't beat them join them but think it should be stopped for future seasons.

I'm not against the loan system in general, for teams like Accrington who struggle to assemble a squad it's fine but Newcastle who get gates of 60,000 and a fat wadge of premier league money to need to loan a player in is a joke. Maybe because they are sponsored by wonga they feel obliged.
 
I'd been pondering this for a while and am somewhat conflicted on it, in general I don't really have a problem with the loan system but in Everton's case in particular it rankles somewhat, probably just jealousy though in all honesty. Going into the season I think it was a perfectly achievable target for us to push to finish above them, then all of a sudden on deadline day they are gifted three players by three of the biggest teams in world football and they are a completely different entity, the Remy one is annoying too. Kind of makes a mockery of team like ours' efforts that they can just bring in proven players for free even in some cases with the owning club paying a percentage of the wages with minimal risk. Hopefully our approach will have greater long-term benefits but if Lukaku and Barry get Everton into the CL their resources and potential for recruitment will be huge.
 
I wouldn't be overly against a loan player. I guess that argument is that if they get you a high league position they can't then help you maintain/push on next season. Although the counter argument to that is your new found status as a club would attract a good replacement.
 
Just don't think players should be allowed to loan players in the same division.
The loan system is risky. Look at WBA as an example. It does them good short term, but if your best players are loans then you have a big void to fill.
 
It will be interesting to see how Everton get on next season if they don't manage to keep the loans. As said, look at West Brom who failed to adequately replace Lukaku.

If we had the chance to loan out a player like Targett to a newly promoted team where he could potentially play every week, I don't think many here would complain about the system.

Also I read that Lukaku was either the top or at least in top 3 shirt prints for West Brom shirts last season :) When that happens I think it's a little sad to say the least.

Yep, this. If you loan to a club in another division, there's no conflict of interest unless that team somehow plays you in a Cup, in which case they just can't play that player. When you loan to a team in the same division, every result has an impact because when they aren't playing you they are playing your rivals.

I don't think we need to take away the ability of Premier League clubs to take loans, they just have to get them from other places in Europe. Or in the rare case from lower league sides as with Puncheon.

I wold disagree with it. If he's ready for the prem he would be in our match day squad. If not loan him don a league or two.

I don't think Premier League teams should be able to loan players in

This is the issue I think. Also that effectively, the top teams can stop their rivals getting points even when they are not playing them.

Maybe, the rule should be that they have to play against the parent club. That would stop a few (although I can imagine some 'dodgy' injuries cropping up). This actually happened not long ago, were Portsmouth involved? I can't remember the details, but I'm sure it was a significant match.

I'm bored ****less of reading how the loan system is somehow 'unfair' when virtually every club in the division uses it. The only issue people have with Evertons use of it this season, is because Martinez has used it brilliantly & the players in question have the temerity to be bleeding great & are actually having an impact <doh>

I've got no problem with clubs using the system to their advantage as its there to be used. That doesn't mean that the system is a good or fair one.

Of couse it's 'fair'. As every club can use it in the same way.

The only way it's ever perceived as being 'unfair' is when the players in question are actually any bleeding good!
