Good work fella. I was a member of the anti racist alliance and used to be involved with campaigns to get those scummy ****s kicked out of welling. Crazy really now to think that they were allowed to operate there. Thankfully the hate crimes act would mop that **** up pretty swiftly today.

Was fanastic to see the local community of black white and asian stand together against them. Makes me proud to from here.
I made scrap books of leaflets, newspaper cutting and photos to show my kids in the future (never had them at the time but knew I wanted kids) . They love seeing what their mum and dad did in the campaign to make the area a better place.

Once knocked on a door during rhe campaign. A massive skinhead about a foot taller than me (I'm 5 10) and weighing at least 20 plus stone opened the door looking well ****ed off.
Thought I was going to **** myself so much that I would drown in it.
I thought **** it and gave him the anti nazi leaflet and took a step back.
He looked me in the eye and said that one of those ****s knocked on his door thought he would support them. He said he told them to **** off and threatened to beat them ****less if they dared knock next door. <laugh>
I asked if their were elderly people next door and he said no...they are Indian and the kids play with his and when they made somosas they always made extra for his family. Then he said the looks on thBNP faces was priceless <laugh>
He took a pile of leaflets and said he'd do his street so we could do more elsewhere!
Was about 22 yr old and it taught me NEVER assume about people.

Ignore it PISKIE, it's just another attempt to derail a conversation by decent posters. Rise above it.
It's quite interesting to see all you lots comments about growing up in London anyway, it's another world

Yep...helped organise it through my union (was NALGO).
In the weeks before that demo we put up thousands of posters, handed out over 20, 000 leaflets and got over 100 local unions and community groups to put their names down as supporters of the demo. I spoke at over 50 meetings in workplaces, union meeting, college classes, university lectures about the demo.
Ended up being a steward at the front of the march. After the first police baton charge I was helping to pull people up off the floor and I looked up to see a riot old bill with a really long baton swinging down at me. I closed my eyes and woke up after being out cold for a few minutes. Remember nothing else from the day after that!
Was strange watching the national press coverage claiming there were only 2000 people on the demo, mainly "anarchist trouble makers" when there were still people on Winns Common when it all kicked off. The local press coverage was much more sympathetic and local people knew the police had attacked the demo... A bit like they had done on the poll tax and miners demos in the then recent past.

Even wrote leaflet myself and the Anti Nazi League asked to print it properly as they liked it.

Sorry to bore you all but I am proud of my kids, my relationship of mrs rcl and these anti racist things...they make me feel like I made a little bit of a difference for the better.

    <cheers>

Still the same i guess life as a spud....

All jokes aside though, I grew up in Highbury although went to school in hackney and as a youngster used to get in to lot of **** and fights and now you look around those areas and see how its changed, you wouldn't even think that's how it was years ago!

I am thankful and glad i didnt go down the path some of my mates have, some in prison and some have become proper junkies with nothing to live for really, such a shame and waste of life.

Some of these kids don't know how lucky they are these days! They have so much going for them and services at their finger tips to make a good life for themselves and they still have a chip on their shoulder!

A kid got knifed round my way a week or so ago, sad really but the other member of the "gangs" hanging around 20-30 of them at a time to catch the guy who did it, they never learn from it these days not only that you have to be pretty stupid to come back to the same area where you knifed someone or the others are just stupid and wasting time!

My kids are tiny...the oldest is 11 the youngest is 6!
Most neglected, most abused, some have mental health problems some have medical problems such as Autism to a near unmanageable degree for their parents.
In my personal view the social services cuts are killing any hope of these kids having a life.
Have worked with a 8 yr kid who was living with with his pimp dad. Police and social services knew dad was a pimp cos the boy graphically told staff how he'd been withdad to collect money from his "girls" and cos he had convictions and yet he was removed from the at risk register even though he was extremely violent on a daily basis. Social services said he was fine....until 6 months later they had to have an emergency meeting to put him back on after dad tried to strangle mum. Even then they refused to remove him cos they claim he's not in danger <yikes>
The truth is , it is cheaper to leave him where he is rather than put him into a foster family.
The joke is that in the long term the prison and hospital costs of treating them and the benefits costs (cos they'll never get a job) will be massively higher than spending the money now to protect the.
You'd be surprised how many of they violent teenagers have similarly abusive backgrounds.

    It's a ****ing disgrace!..

And when they get older, they're released, or not even taken in to facilities, where they need to be, and innocent people always suffer the consequences.

I used to knock about around the Elephant & Castle and that was rough as fcuk. Apparently if you had both ears you were over dressed. The London school of printing was run like a borstal I fcuking hated that place although a few jars at my mates mums pub the Thomas Abeckit eased the pain. Good live music scene there.
