Both great players...but didn't we miss out on dempsey because of his "age"? Can't see either of these two fitting the bill then really.
Molby: Allen has Barca mentality http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/molby-allen-has-barca-mentality
are you having a giraffe? charles is one of the footballing greats, an actual legend in the game... "John wasn't only one of the greatest footballers who ever lived. He was one of the greatest men ever to play the game. âSir Bobby Robson gerrard was a fantastic player for a few years and looks to be fading a bit now, but we're talking about two different calibres of players here....a good modern box to box player but even in his heyday wasnt the best player in the premierleague, let alone warranting comparisons with the likes that dragon lists....,ok>
Yeah, they were very good players mate. Unfortunately you need 6 more to make a competitive team. We've got the same problem now. Bale, Allen, Ramsey, Bellamy, Williams and Taylor all range from good to World Class....unfortunately Williams (Good) will be paired up with James Collins (Excrement)....Allen (excellent) and Ramsey (very good - excellent) could well start on Friday night alongside Ledley (God awful) in a 3 man midfield.....Bale (World Class) on one wing, Robson-Kanu (a little promise) on the other....Bellamy (excellent, if fit) up front with Morrison (a tryer). At full back we'll most likely have youngsters and in goal the best we can muster is West Brom's reserve goalie. The 1958 team had class players or players who were playing regular for the Swans and Cardiff in the old second division who were at least on their way to being good players (e.g. Mel Charles as a Swansea player in 1958 was a far, far better player than James Collins despite playing in the Second Division) in every position.
The argument was about how well he played for Swansea, which Phil conveniently side-stepped. He played his best football away from Wales. Gerrard achieved great things in the Liverpool shirt.
again, you having a giraffe mate? allens getting all the attention at the moment but ramsey is a much more complete player.... since the leg break he hasnt been the same player but a top player who i'd have over carrick, parker and all the big time charlies in the england national XI. gerrards great things??? ok i'll give you istanbul but most of the time his so called 'heroic' performances involved dragging an average team through, and long range strikes.... no doubting he's a box office player who gets the crowd going but where was he at wembley vs cardiff?
To be honest I think (and most Arsenal fans will agree) that he's an average player - decent technique but not enough in the final third. Makes mistakes. Definitely was set back a few years by the leg break though. I think Carrick is a decent player, certainly better than Ramsey. He's just an easy target but he's an effective player who uses the ball well - ripped apart by Barca, sure, but who isn't? He was on the pitch against Cardiff, wore number 8 I think ended up lifting the trophy at the end too. He's scored in every club cup final and been one of the best players in the league for a decade or so, whilst never playing for the best side. In terms of individual awards, nominations and recognition he has plenty also. He's had a great career and will be remembered (probably) as the best player to never win the premier league.
Why did you deliberately ignore the great Cliff Jones? Is it because he played 168 games for Swansea on the wing scoring 47 goals before moving on? As it happens Cliff, like the others, achieved far more away from his home town club (of course, we are a small club in a small town). Does that change the fact that the 83 year old fella a few doors up from me remembers watching a World Class player on the wing for Swansea....of course not. We are 100 years old today and can be very proud of the footballers our little town have produced, a few of them World Class. I'd suggest John Charles, Cliff Jones, Trevor Ford and Ivor Allchurch were the finest.
I didn't have time to look through them all, especially when the first few never actually did anything noteworthy for Swansea (club). They may have produced talent but the argument was over the talent actually being shown in a Swansea shirt - unlike, say, Charles.
Never said I went through them numerically, just picked some names at random. Anyway this has dragged on
I'm surprised no one has mentioned that Joe's been injured on international duty and that is why he didn't feature against the Belgians. Hope he's not going to miss our next game as he's been one of our better players.
