I used to work in a team of 6 at my place, 2 years ago due to changes 3 of that team ended up being made redundant and all 3 of them have been out of work for over a year and all of them have years of experiences and pretty much they're all very depressed over it. Since I left University in 2000 I've been pretty lucky to more or less be working consistently since then even if it weren't the worlds greatest jobs. Come next month i'll be unemployed but by choice as I'm moving abroad. My only advice is to keep plugging away and not give up

Thank you. All I want is a chance to show I can do something. Companies seem scared of employing younger people.

I've been thinking 'outside the box' and thought posting a thread on here was a good idea.

I really don't how people on the dole do it. I'm going serious crazy and the free time is total killer.

Apply for Argos - they take on at this time of year for Xmas and normally allow one or two to stay on permanantly. i presume Xmas temps will be taken on in other businesses too

Can you get in to do some voluntary work somewhere? You'll get out and get that social interaction again and also some experience - I found when I was out of work for a good while it helped reassure prospective employers that I wasn't just sat on my rear watching daytime TV all day. Plus you never know who you might meet and make contacts through.
