We paid £6 million for Ki for a reason and that was he proved at a bigger club than us that he has tremendous skill. I think he should never have been allowed to go out on loan in the first place even though i understand ki's reason behind it with it being world cup year. I would put him on instant recall and let him stay there as long as he is getting games but should we suffer more injuries then he has to return straight away...
Right, I'm pretty sure that when I read about his loan at the start of the season, the recall option was only available for January. I could be wrong. I think if we leave him there until the window closes, we've effectively loaned him for the season and can't have him back until the end of the season. Having not read the thread properly, I'm just going to give my opinion. Sorry if it's already been said. Personally, I don't think there's a debate here. Not in the sense that one is clearly better or more useful than the other though. They're both our players, so recall Ki. When Britton was injured, we started De Guzman in the following games: Valencia (home) - Thu 28 Nov Man City (away) - Sun 1 Dec Newcastle (home) - Wed 4 Dec Hull (home) - Mon 9 Dec St Gallen (away) - Thu 12 Dec Norwich (away) - Sun 15 Dec He finished all games apart from the Hull game, where he played an hour. Those last 3 games came in under 7 days including a day of delayed travel to Switzerland. For a team that's supposedly rotating, how have we managed to let a player play this frequently (every weekend and midweek) for 3 weeks in a row. Our squad is light and as Ki is our player, I suggest we get him back in the white of Swansea as soon as possible to: (a) stop De Guzman from burning out and; (b) stop similar instances occurring between now and the end of the season.
I think Ki on loan is a win win situation at this moment. For him cos hes getting games and improving under Poyet all the time and for us cos we have someone in his place who also seems to be improving and pound for pound carries more goal threat. JDG may not want to be here next season or they might ask stupid money, in that case we have an improved similar type player to take his player OR JDG stays and we have a willing buyer to at least recoup our money (something that wasnt feasible before). the relegation talk for me is not an issue. although weve been dropping a lot of points I see it with my own eyes (and most pundits agree) that we are a good side playing attractive football. of course we could become relegation material by complacency, lack of effort, many more injuries etc but no in general i dont see us as relegation candidates (hope that doesnt come back to haunt me!)
I think all parties should be happy for the reasons above, he's getting ample game time (which he wouldn't have got here ) , his value to the club remains in credit I believe & he is another player who the club know all about so no worries on whether he's good enough at this level should he return
I never take any notice of polls as if you look at the pro JDG then you will find the same ones slagging him off whenever he plays.
On the Vital pole 89% of Jacks want Ki back in January? So for whatever reason he should come back, for me I think we could do with him, given the lack of rotation regarding De Guz, as bigkidderz has rightly pointed out...............
I can see that argument for sure but it seems the majority want him recalled for squad strengthening reasons rather than he's a better player.
Interesting stats.http://www.soccersouls.com/2014/01/...-stars-feature-in-the-top-5-passers-in-epl/5/
JDG is the third best passer in the Prem then, with Chico and Canas not far behind. 3 out of the top 5 - not bad for little old Swansea. Good post. On JDG: "The Dutchman has created 31 chances this season, including 3 assists and 28 key passes to go with an average of 63.1 passes per game." Like I said - be careful what you wish for.
My tuppence worth is this: JDG is very good when we are in possession in our own half (he is very adept at playing 1-2's with the CB's with his back to their goal). His composure here gets us out of trouble. This I imagine is the main reason for his impressive passing stats ( a bit like Joey Allen in the past). Attacking wise he seems to lack composure - but then so does most of the squad recently. My main bugbear is that for a set-piece 'specialist' he fecking sucks at set pieces. Usually corners should at least beat the first man or at least be in the same part of the pitch as our attacking players. Every corner we get I feel the dissapointment of a chance wasted before he even takes the bloody kick! Admittedly he has improved in general play lately but he seems to have bigger peaks and troughs of form than most. Hopefully his recent displays aren't paving the way for more ****e form in future. I would probably go for Ki over JDG purely because Ki is our player and JDG is a loanee, although I'm Sure ML has his reasons (a la Danny G). If Villareal don't rate the guy then I wonder why ML seems to have this love-in with him.
"I would probably go for Ki over JDG purely because Ki is our player and JDG is a loanee" Like I said, I've still yet to see a cogent, valid reason to pick Ki over JDG. No offence steve but that's not one of them either. The facts and the stats point to JDG being the better player and that was the intention of the poll. I agree with most of your other comments though. JDG needs to be far more consistent in his play - particularly on set pieces.
Probably because there is very little between them truth told. Next season maybe sell Ki, get shot of JDG and use the money to buy someone better than both. ML over to you...
Well I think Ki will go to the Mackems and JDG will go when Laudrup goes, maybe at the end of the season. I think that's the end of the loan period anyway.
I remember when we 1st signed Ki we had loads of Koreans on here 'Ki is the best midfielder in the world' type platitudes. Well he isn't even the best in the Swans squad let alone the world! We got a tremendous (if not a little raw) talent in Shelvey so here's hoping we can also get someone better than Ki and JDG. Colback has been mentioned recently and whilst not reallybetter at least he would help fill the homegrown quota. Without spending money we can't afford we will have to rely on ML's scouting network to get us another bargain (assuming he is still here next season).
Reading about the things Poyet has said about the Sunderland players on their board, I can see Ki being back with us next season, along with Poyet in charge.
Hopefully Pozuello will become more consistent over the rest of the season and start to become more mature on the field. If he can develop quickly, we won't have to buy somebody better than Ki or JDG as this kid has the potential to be special.
Even with Poz I think we need another CM to replace Ki/JDG. I see Poz more as back-up/rotation with Michu. Hell of a talent though. Players like Poz and Pablo bring that flair that is sorely needed at this level. Now if only Bony can keep scoring and JDG could start finding a Swans player with his set pieces we could have a very decent 2nd half of the season...
I agree with the view of bigkidders, JDG is certainly being overplayed, at this time. A simple risk assessment of the potential damage we could face if we lost more midfield personnel, through injury or fatigue, shows the need for Ki to return very soon. If he does return, in my view, he'll be competing more with Shelvey than JDG's but worst case scenario if both Shelvey and JDG go down, we're really in the brown stuff so it looks a no brainer to get Ki back. The spanner in the works is that Ki is looking to re-establish his tarnished international status. To help achieve this he needs to be playing week-in-week-out; which he can achieve at Sunderland as there is little in the way of competition. With us the story's is different. Here he'll be competing with Shelvey, JDG maybe also Canas and Britton, for his place in our starting 11 and lets not forget Michu will return in a month or so and Pozuello is learning and improving. Playing off the bench, Ki wont get the exposure he seeks to justify international selection. In addition, for his country Ki is competing with the Bluebirds Kim who has been playing out of his skin, week-in-week-out. Ki fits us nicely and we may force his return but I seriously doubt that he actually wants to come back. At Sunderland he's hi-viz, a regular starter, a stand out player with the potential to be a cult hero; playing a major role in saving them from the drop maybe. While here he's not so visible, he's one of many, a cog in our machine. In his eyes there maybe too much at stake for him to come back now. By the way....... Happy New Year to all in Jackland, 2014's gonna be FANTASTIC
