I think we all saw it coming simply because Aribo is a good young player, which meant he would be sold. Offering him a derisory contract made it a certainty.. Grant next?
I like the bit in the Independent listing all the players we have sold into the premiership and continuing 'but Charlton are still languishing in tier 3'. BUT? No, Charlton have sold off a series of potentially great players too cheaply and not reinvested the money, HENCE they are still languishing in tier 3. Hence, NOT but, mr Independent. Now write it out one hundred times.
I suppose Duchatelet hasn’t offered Aribo a contract because he’s selling the club to those Aussies ?
Thinking of our excellent signings over the years, Loic Nego is playing against Chelsea in the Europa League
I wanted Powell sacked, but he was sacked for the wrong reason, correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t the straw that broke the camels back Powell refusing to drop Solly for Nego in the fa cup quarter at Sheff Utd? Dunno if Nego is playing rb for his current team?
We need at least two loans (sigh) in January. Cover at left back - forget Page being back in February. And a creative midfielder.
Social media rumours from Villa today that they plan to recall Jed Steer from his loan in January. Personally I don't think Steer is very good. I have seen a lot of Charlton keepers in my time, and I wouldn't put this lad in the top 20. He's nowhere near as good as Ben Amos, and is inferior to the likes of Declan Rudd and Ben Hamer as well. A possible chink of light for Dillon Phillips.
This just posted on the official Charlton Athletic website; https://www.cafc.co.uk/news/view/5c2a3540bb4c9/goalkeeper-jed-steer-recalled-by-aston-villa Lee Bowyer has thanked Jed Steer for his contribution this season. That suggests Steer won't be back. Ashley Maynard-Brewer is Charlton's 2nd choice keeper for the moment. (He has been recalled from a loan at Chelmsford, 1 day early) However, Bowyer has said this is only until Charlton can get another keeper in.
Steer hasn’t proved to be a very sensible loan. Arguable whether he got into our team on merit anyway, and now Villa have dropped us in it in the worst possible way. A 17 year old kid on the bench for us tomorrow.
Hardly an ideal situation for Phillips. He knows that as soon as the next loanee comes in he will be dropped for some excuse or other, Jed Steer's fantastic distribution was the last one, even though we only saw it once, for Ward's assist. We took Steer in as a rusty goalie who had hardly kicked a ball in anger for a couple of years, and we've returned him as a competent match-fit goalie.
That is what loaning a player out is all about. It is uncanny that our last three first team keepers have all been loans.
It’s ridiculous. Dare I say it, Seriously Ridiculous. It’s why I personally can never get too excited with our loans. Whoever negotiated this Steer deal on these terms is an idiot.
It’s on days like this that you have to pity Lee Bowyer. His small squad decimated by injuries, and now losing his keeper from under his nose after a badly negotiated loan deal.
