Oh yeah I forgot him and then of course there is Aguero too. But these were very expensive signings. I just wondered if there were other strikers out there from that continent a bit more under the radar for about 10-15 mil. With the extra money now in Brazilian football it's not so easy to pick up a bargain from this league.
Depends what sort of impact you want. Saha in fairness is free again and is handy to have as a 3rd striker. I doubt there'll be another player of Drogba's calibre on a free. Iaquinta has barely featured for Juve and with them getting Anelka, he'll be even further down the pecking order and his deal runs out in 2013 so they'd probably let him leave now.
Hernandez would be a great option! if only. Suarez and Tevez to name 2 more recent ones. but I can't think of any others, other than santa cruz who looked good before he wrote off his career in signing for city.
Aguero I think has been a success at City as well. 40 goals in 74 appearances is impressive, scored some big goals for them as well. He was in Spain though before he came to the Prem which I guess may have covered up any initial problems he had with leaving home etc. although of course La Liga and the PL are different, as are Manchester and Madrid! Struggling to think of any others though.
Aguero was at Atletico Madrid prior to coming to the Prem so I never counted him but he's adapted brilliantly over here. As for £10m-£15m not a clue mate, like you said there's more money in Brazil now so there's no need to sell if they don't need/ want to and therefore bargains are hard to come by... We've learnt this from Damiao Suarez has adapted well over here, even if he is a prick. Though he was £20m I think.
Suarez is a great example though. 20 million wasn't cheap and players from the Dutch league who are prolific there are not always prolific here. I can't remember the name but Chelsea signed someone who scored goals for fun in the Dutch league but hardly scored for them. Suarez, personality aside, has turned out to be a huge success. It's all about a calculated risk. Someone in their early twenties that if they don't cut it will have resale value. Oh for another Berbatov!
Kezman (he's your chelsea bloke) I was just thinking about him when reading about Bony scoring lots of goals.
He looked great at the beginning of the season before a certain team bought Dembele and ruined our midfield.
Ah yes Kezman thats the one cheers. It is a lot about luck at the end of the day. I was more excited about the signing of Rebrov than Berbatov and look how they both turned out!
I considered Rebrov to be the better of the Rebrov-Shevchenko partnership so i was very excited when we bagged him. I changed my mind about who was best shortly after. Then Shevchenko signed for Chelsea and i wondered whether i hadn't been correct in the first place
I remember thinking when we signed Rebrov that he could be our "Henry" Perhaps not...... Shevchenko was a strange one as he had everything about him to be a success here. Still pissed off about the wonder goal he scored against us in a cup replay though when we ****ed up from 3-1 in front at their place.
Whilst true, it is important to note that Dembele looked pretty terrible in his first year with us. Alot of fans didn't rate him at all after that season. But he improved so much once he (and we) settled that he became one of our stars. Ruiz has been much better this season than last, in a similar fashion. I don't think it is unrealistic to expect Ruiz to build on his several moments of brilliance this year once we get some Premier League talent into our midfield behind him. Of course, you guys could help with that by selling us Huddlestone...
Bryan Ruiz looked good before he signed for you and it does take time for players to settle in sometimes. Hopefully for you guys his improved form will continue! You've cetainly got a manager who'll get the best out of him. Huddlestone will be a good match up. I can see that deal happening.
I remember when we signed Berba. I knew jack about him but a mate of mine was adamant he'd do well (albeit probably weren't expecting him to become one of the leagues top strikers!). It's funny how a lot of "hyped up" signings end up being complete flops. To think of a few: I remember when we signed Andy Reid and Daws in the double deal from Forest. At the time, Reid was being hailed as the best player in the Championship and set to be a great signing... Hmmm... Naughton and Walker, Naughton was the one that everyone expected to be England's next RB... Hmmm... Roman Pavlyuchenko, looked awesome in the Euro's, came with a reputation as a lethal finisher and while showing certain moments, was nowhere near worth the £13m we splashed out. Alan Hutton, the exact words from BBC at the time "Europe's best performing right back"... Hmmmm...
