This injury news to Defoe that's now got out into the open, is going to work against us massively. I reckon we've been trying to keep this very quiet for a while. Other clubs are going to know how buggered we are and it's likely they'd have the upper hand on Levy. (for once). Levy won't stand for it, so rather than getting ripped off, we'll end up with a loan.
apparently something's cropped up today regarding a pretty big name. twit says he'll say who, as soon as he can. apparently it's sensitive info, but was mentioned to him 2 weeks ago, and even he dismissed it.
I can dream, wouldn't piss the goons off, they are already complaining about the £ity after him rumours
when did bbc 606 shut down? NEW STRIKER was pretty old when that happened. I can't believe this is still going on. Even when we signed Adebayor it was "Adebayor + NEW STRIKER". Why is this such a problem for us? Other clubs sign strikers willy-nilly and not all of them are massively overpriced either.
Heung-min Son says he's staying at Hamburg until the summer. We should say that if he signs today, we'll burn every copy of the US remake of Oldboy. That should work wonders.
it's a good question spurm. We haven't spent the £20mill for a few reasons, i guess. - we feel that they are overpriced/a risk/will demand too much in wages..... etc etc. but in the striker department, we seem to be reluctant to spending the "£12m-£15m's" these days. It's like we feel that we've been burnt on that money already, so there's no way we're spending any more than that! Not every striker need CL football either. Look at Remy for example. I also think there's a bit of attitude/snobbery within our club, in the sense that the club knows that it needs the next striker to be that up and coming world class talent. So therefore we're being v picky and making sure we get it right. This then reflects onto the fans, as we agree that we need a striker of top quality for where we're trying to be. So strikers like Remy, Van Wolfswinkel etc etc, "aren't good enough". (which might be right.) It's a real limbo situation because we (the club and fans) are turning our nose up at an 8mill striker because we're frightened it will be a waste of money. - But at the same time, we're not prepared to shell out, because of the risks involved at that end of the spectrum too. So, as a result, the 20+'s are a no-go. The 12-15's we're reluctant with... and we end up with not enough. - Which puts us in our current position. when you think about it, its quite an achievement being in 4th place. - Everton have fellaini and Jelavic who are both quality, IMO. and the goons have walcott, Giroud and Podolski. (and even cazorla for that matter too) How on earth have we done it with Ade injured for so long (then coming back and doing bugger all) and just Defoe as the only other striker? Well, I guess its the form of Bale and Defoe, who have bagged almost half of our premiership goals. (19/40) Defoe's scoring spell appears to have come to an end and we need answers, otherwise this season will end up being as disappointing as last years. We're at a real cross roads.
Funny, I was just thinking yesterday "I bet we sell Hudd to Fulham", and then this happens. Jol is so predictable! This Samba to QPR story sounds unbelievable, isn't he earning silly money over in Russia, he would have to be to put of with the racial abuse.
Supposedly £5m. Not too bad a price for a player who was injured all last season, has been pony this year and looking extremely out of shape. A fully fit and on form Hudd would be about £10m-£13m in my opinion.
I suppose as far as Levy is concerned for every Klinsmann and Berbatov there is a Rebrov and Postiga. What we don't want is to have an Andy Booth situation by the end of tomorrow. We can all dream of a big signing but I think it will end up being a disappointment. Levy doesn't take such risks and in a way maybe we should be thankful of that. For him it is a business where as for us it is all about passion.
Relegation threatened QPR replace giant defensive stalwart and premier league veteran Ryan Nelsen with unheard of South Korean youngster .
always on the reel aren't ya bossy? ya worse than me! As the others have said, supposedly Fulham. we should bite their hand off for that. It's money which is needed elsewhere and it frees up wages on a player who's not been up to par. also read earlier, that apparently we're looking for 9mill euro's for Gomes and have rejected something from a greek club. 9mill euro's? no wonder he's still on our wage bill!
I would not turn down an £8m striker. I suggested Hooper on here weeks ago and most poo-poo'd it if i recall. I still think he'd be a good option and certainly better than nothing. Similarly when someone suggested Danny Graham the other day. Not world class by any stretch of the imagination but a guy that bagged 14 goals last season, and 7 this season mostly from the bench. Levy needs to look back at how well we've done in the last 4 or so years and then say to himself "imagine what we might have done if we'd actually replaced Berbs/Keane properly/at all". Wolfswinkel is deffo worth a shot. Young and looks decent. I thought man u were considering him a year or so ago, now Norwich??? Surely we should be in for him and favourites over Norwich. We should have been in for Ba, before Chelsea, that was such an obvious, cheap signing. But no apparent interest in a £7m proven prem goal machine. WTH? Remy i have never seen so i won't comment. I read that interesting blog/article someone posted about us possibly trying to copy Lyon's approach. If so, why aren't we signing 20-22 year old semi-(un)proven strikers? Winkel pretty much fits that (he 23 or so?). Its not just that we aren't signing top quality, world class, proven strikers its that we aren't signing ANY strikers. We have no succession planning or backup whatsoever in that department. So far we have, touch wood, been relatively lucky with striker injuries. Fancy playing the rest of the season with both Defoe and Ade injured? I bloody don't. I can only guess (and hope) that the powers that be really fancy one of our youth team. Its don't think its Kane and from what Spurcat has said it doesn't sound like its Coulibaly any time soon. That leaves Lancaster? He must fancy his chances of prem game time soon the way things are going.
Didn't he cost about 9 million euros when we bought him about 5 years ago?! Jesus Levy is a tough negotiator! How can he still be worth the same even though he hasn't really played for about a year or so?!
agreed Jack, and it's very true. But if we're to progress, we have to take those risks. Otherwise it's stalemate. Andy Booth! I'd completely forgotten about that!!
I wouldn't be disappointed if we signed Hooper or Graham. Both would be fairly cheap in the grand scheme of things. Graham's record is quite good and with better service and players he could do even better. Just as long as we sign someone!
