Difficult isn't it, the defence was so poor it's hard to gauge how he would do in the PL. All you can say is that he took his chances well.

It also doesn't show his movement off the ball, workrate, etc. Hard to tell much from it, but his 2nd goal was a very nice finish.

Yeah this is pretty much what I were getting at yesterday.

Hoopers goal record is great but he's up against a standard of defender that would be lucky to make it in League 1.

Boss touched on a great point yesterday too, Billy McKay is the top scorer in the SPL with 16 goals, Mckay was previously of Northampton Town and managed 13 goals in 74 appearances... Lee Griffiths, a loanee from Wolves is in second place with 15, he's yet to make a league appearance for Wolves yet... To me this just stinks of how poor the League actually is in terms of quality.

I know Jelavic and Fletcher have been "success" stories which someone touched on yesterday but for every Fletcher and Jelavic, there's a Boyd/ Miller/ Samaras/ McDonald just waiting round the corner.

Hooper isn't proved at a top level and to be honest, I think it's too big a risk for a club with our ambitions/ targets to be taking a risk on, especially at £8m-£10m which seems to be the quoted figure.

I'm sure the guy's talented and could well become a top/ decent striker over here in England but I'd rather go for someone more proven at top level football.

Looks like movements are beginning to happen. Players signing new contracts and Newcastle signing just about everyone in France!

Sky have just claimed that we've had a second holtby bid rejected, but the deal is expected to go through in the next 48 hours.

The "twits" have got this right.

Is it time to close this thread until 5 minutes before the window closes as there is unlikely to be any moves until then.

Realistically, who would you guys actually want in terms of names, we've all said how we need a top striker, creative mid etc but lets be specific, what players do you actually want?

    Mine:
    Holtby now - £1.5m
    Negredo - £10m-£15m
Saha - Free - Sunderland don't use him and he's a useful option to have at times, as he proved here last year.
Miguel - Free - As a temporary solution at RB. Naughton doesn't seem to have a chance which is a shame but I'm sick of Walker at the moment, his form has been dire, it's not just been a bad patch, it's been an awful season so far bar about 3/4 games. Miguel was one of the best RB's in Europe and despite being without a club since Valencia released him (mainly due to injuries) he's still a player with great ability IMO. Hopefully with some time on the bench it'll give Walker a kick up the arse!

  20. No probs with those names although we already have the 'ass-kicker' for Walker in Adam Smith. I imagine his loan is reversible mid-season. Think I would rather keep the RB position in-house.
Was surprised that we off-loaded Saha quite so quickly last term. Didn't exactly set the world alight, but combined well with Ade a couple of times and would probably be happy to be something of a bench-warmer.
