Are we talking about our strikers being not good enough? not the best for type of chances we now create?
Its the fact its the only move PNP! That no other top team is interested is very telling and why I think its a bullet dodged, there must be some underlying problem perhaps. Look at it, VdV and Sneijder cast aside to rubbish teams, whats going on?? Serie A has money and likes a geriatric or two!
Exactly what I said yesterday. We would have won comfortably with RVP in our side. I suppose it shows how shrewd old bacon chops was in buying him. Even though it seemed a hell of a lot of money for a player his age.
Judging from RVP's pre game interview yesterday it sounds like he thinks he still has 6/7 years left in him, given that pace is not a fundamental part of his game, he should be able to maintain a high level of performance. I'd say the risk in buying him wasn't about his age, it was his injury record.
Agreed. Although he was injury free last season, if I recall correctly. Maybe he can, after all Sheringham played until 40. Still, there are not many who would pay £24mil for a 29 year old.
Yup he was injury free last year, but the 3/4 seasons before were all disrupted by injury. I remember a gooner friend of mine saying years ago that RVP would be the best striker in the league if he could avoid injury, I dismissed him If RVP's goals can win United 3 or more titles then it will be £24m well spent.
The Twits are saying that holtby will be done by Thursday. And apparently, a striker is definite. Things change on deals all the time apparently, due to the short space in the window. But from what I can gather (and I may be jumping to conclusions here), Negredo COULD be that striker. Which would indicate that Damiao is Game over. but there's a plan b loan in place too. (Not the singer ) The quality of both plan A & plan B? - Debatable. from what I can gather, neither name will excite the spurs fans.
I'd rather Negredo than Damiao to be honest mate. Probably cheaper, more experienced in European leagues and to me, has better attributes to adapt to the Prem.
I don't know enough about negredo, but he's got a decent enough goal record. He does strike me as a panic buy though, as we don't want to spend the money/there's no one else available. we'll see how it unfolds....
I don't know much either mate but he's done well at both Almeria and Sevilla and coming from Madrid's academy, I'm sure he's a talented guy, plus he's got caps for Spain in what is arguably one of the best national sides ever. Think he's called "the beast" isn't he? We could do with a "bully" of a forward.
Anyone think we have an outside chance of getting Villa? Rumoured to have handed in a transfer request and keen for a move to England, Arsenal seem to be favourites.
There was a discussion on Villa a few weeks back and it brought up the point about Villa not being the same player since he was injured, and has lost a yard of pace...the most sensible response, was from Spurlock, who said "if he has lost a yard of pace, just start him further up the pitch"
Apparently we've bid â¬1m for Holtby rather than the â¬2m Schalke want. Sigh - there's being tight and then there's being tight. Come on Levy... quit playin'. Oh - also we're being linked with Celtic's Gary Hooper. Thoughts? His goalscoring record speaks for itself but an English player with potential always gets hugely over-rated (e.g. Zaha).
From whats been leaked media wise, Hooper's on offer for £7-8 mill, which is Ba/Jelavic territory and don't think that would be a bad deal if he could come in and make a similar sort of impact?
