Obviously I couldn't prove it but I don't think Holtby and potentially Moutinho will have come to the club if they weren't guaranteed to be in the starting XI straight away. Neither would really be satisfied with a rotation role and I just think it could lead to a few hissy fits. Everyone wants to play in the league and so even if you're getting plenty of games in cups, I don't think that'll satisfy certain players.
It's funny how financial ruin can alter a man's perspective on a situation, isn't it? They've probably realised that we did them a favour now, anyway.
Good goalscoring record and a bit of a weird history with Real. Tall, strong, skilful, average over 1 every 3 games throughout his career, despite playing a couple of seasons at Almeria and then fighting for a place at Sevilla with Kanoute and Fabiano. He's probably peaking now. Get a distorted idea of what he's like here:
The Fail seem to think that Livermore's going to QPR on loan: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2260176/QPR-sign-Jake-Livermore-loan.html
More from Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas, who dismisses suggestions of a move for 23-year-old Internacional striker Leandro Damiao. "He's a player that is highly rated in the market, and it's unlikely that he will play for Tottenham." So I wonder when he's coming then!!!!
He's also said that we're not signing Holtby this January and that he'll join us in the summer, as already arranged.
when did Sneijder become a Tottenham target? Lol. Inter can't afford his wages so i doubt we'll stump up for them. Plus, he would be a bench warmer at best
If AVB is saying that it's unlikely he'll play for tottenham, there's definitely more to it. 2 weeks ago he said that we wouldn't sign anyone. Do you really think AVB would be happy to admit that he's not getting any of his own players and he's got to continue to work with signings that were from Arry's time, as well as Levy's choices from the summer? Course he's getting some of his own names! lets not forget that when AVB was out of a job, he spent his time scouting the world! I'd be furious if i stepped into a job and couldn't mould my own team!
At the start of the window I read a blog linking us to Sneijder and Moutinho and one of the first comments was "but are they better than Huddlestone and Livermore?", which drew a good few flabbergasted responses
That is clearly a tongue in cheek comment, or from someone with servere issues. Of course they aren't as good as Hudd and Jake.
Anybody else kinda think we shouldn't sign Leandro? Seems to me his chances of flopping in the PL are at least 50%. I doubt he'll ever be nearly as successful as Ade has been, he ain't gonna step in and be the hero for the rest of the season, and if what we want is a dynamite striker prospect, isn't that what Coulibally is for? Talking a lot about Leandro and Sneijder and Moutinho, and actually signing Holtby and Fryers, suits me. Talk a lot of big names and potential flops, sign a couple of carefully chosen young players. Saying we won't get any strikers in also tells Gylfi and Dempsey we're relying on them, which should help them.
strikers who are deemed to be of top quality cost that sort of money though, RWAEB. We cant get away from the fact that we need one. You say that you doubt he'll be as successful as ade has been, but Ade is inconsistent everywhere he goes, and clearly switches clubs so regularly for a reason. he might be great on his day, but ade is also problematic and his history proves this. there's a chance any player will flop. unfortunately the more that is spent, the more pressure they are under. but we'll struggle to find a top drawer striker we need for the level we're trying to get to, and pay very little. with the players he'll have around him and age on his side, it'd be a surprise if he was a flop to be honest. but we'll take that risk with anyone we go for. Jovetic, Lewandowski... u name them. every team in the top 4 or 5 has top drawer talent up front. we are very short at the moment, and quite 1 dimensional.
AVB ":We are not going to sign a striker in the transfer window." BBC Sports latest."Spurs finalizing a deal for Negredo." What do we believe?
Well, we do have two 20 goal a year PL strikers at the moment, albeit one on a couple of week leave. Arsenal's got 0. (Not to mention a midfielder who scored 19 last year, which Arsenal also doesn't have.) To rephrase, I was saying that while Ade's biggest detractor will admit he's been a very good PL striker at times, the chances Leandro never will be that good seem too high to risk. I respect your optimism about the prospects of a big outlay for a striker, think you know more about it than I do, and hope you're right if we get one. But we didn't really pay much for any of our top scorers. Maybe nothing will change, and maybe that makes sense. I do think we need at a minimum a hopefully-better-than-Saha now that we're down to Defoe.
