Former West Ham defender Pablo Armero could be in line for a shock return to the Premier League, according to reports.

The Colombian international, who is currently on loan at Italian giants AC Milanfrom Udinese, endured a difficult spell in England with the Hammers last season - making only five appearances for Sam Allardyce's side.

But, according to reports in Italy, both Hull City and Sunderland have made enquiries to the defender's representative over his availability, who will be a free agent next summer

Wouldnt mind him at all, 28 year old LB, could help PVA with development

Although surely TWO left backs is a simple impossibility for Sunderland?

They'll want him guaranteed games in the PL though, I think we'd have a great shout.

I believe his contract is up seasons end as well, not 100% on this.

Gus Poyet would like to add to his Sunderland squad in the January transfer window but is determined not to rush into making any rash signings.

Sunderland are 14th in the table and four points clear of the relegation zone going into 2015, where defending champions Manchester City will be their New Year’s Day opponents at the Etihad Stadium.

Poyet admits he would love to land “that special player” to help boost his club’s survival chances but is adamant he will not sign players for the sake of it and will instead focus on continuing the hard work that will be required to keep them in the Premier League.

"Everyone is looking for that special player, the one who will do something special"

    Sunderland boss Gus Poyet

“Everyone is looking for that special player, the one who will do something special for you without needing to train or teach or coach too much but there are not that many so it is very difficult,” he said.

“The idea here is to stay calm, know where we are, be realistic and keep working hard. We will try to find players if it is possible, not to panic and set up any target of numbers of players or positions.

"We want the best player in the world very cheap, nice-looking, he can score goals, he can run, sprint. But it's difficult, very difficult. We are working, I can tell you we are working very hard. Are we going to bring in someone? Are we going to buy him, loan him? We will see, it depends on so many things.

Gus Poyet says Sunderland must stay calm and maintain a realistic attitude as the season continues.

    Loans
"Certain kinds of players are only available on loan, certain kinds of players, you need to buy them and it costs a lot. Certain players cost less because they are a nightmare or they have got some issues and you think you are the genius who can bring them to you and calm them down.

"We are working very hard. It's not easy, but we will see."

With his side having scored only 16 goals in their first 19 Premier League games, Poyet is keen to sign a striker in January but knows he faces stiff competition from other sides in the top-flight.

"The easiest way to sort out a few problems in front of goal is to go and buy," he said.

"Now the right price, the right player who scores goals coming here and doing it straight away - everybody is looking for the same, so it's a competition. There are not many, but we will try."

Pace is lacking for me, even more than creativity as I think some pace would open up the last third for us. If we continue to play heavily defensive then we need more pace in the counter attack. It would also stop teams pressing us so high up as we really don't have any speed to scare teams. There was a rumour about Townsend, it's a long shot but someone like that would be perfect.

Why not Rickie Lambert if the likes of Joel Campbell or similar aren't available? Liverpool look to be set to sell in January after having paid $4M over the summer. He and Mario have been a disappointing replacement pair for Suarez and Sturridge (obviously) and Rodgers certain to bring in reinforcements sooner than later. Leicester is only team linked with him I can find, and think he'd be much happier here with Gus and Co. Scored 13 Prem goals last year, is 32, and probably on decent/fair wages. He was a handful last year with Southampton and is a natural goal scorer. Wouldn't break the bank and almost certainly would start banging 'em in.

Could we tempt Podolski and the other Arsenal player (I forgot his name Sagna I think) here ? on loan. Ings of Burnley is a cracking player, Austin will want £250,000 a week wages so rule I him out. Jemaine defoe, always liked him and wants to come back to the premier league. I am more than happy with our goal keepers, but need another Johnson on the left.

Ings looks a real ****ing player mind, I genuinely do believe he'll stay for the season and then he will have his pick of many clubs.

Lambert is an interesting thought, he's a goalscorer, and a goal maker too, wouldn't be against it one bit.

Working with my ITK source next week, I will ask him the question (probably get a bottle of red wine down him first) and will report back probably via PM to someone else to post if I get anything juicy. He is 100% ITK as he is friends with Short. I don't want to say who he is but I looked him up on wikipedia and everything he told me about his former job is true (well according to the internet).
