Anyone reckon we could get Januzaj on loan?

Not getting much game time at Utd, we need someone a bit creative and he'd get prem experience here

Transfer Window History: Every summer seems to bring another major overhaul of Sunderland's squad without ever managing to dramatically improve results on the pitch. Manager Gus Poyet has made it clear he wants quality, not quantity in the future.
Budget: Whatever money Poyet can raise from player sales, but there was very little in the kitty in the summer, so unless owner Ellis Short writes a personal cheque, budget will to £2-3m.
Dream signing: Fabio Borini Just because the Italian rather insultingly refused to sign for the Black Cats in the summer, Poyet has not given up on the Liverpool forward who did so well on loan last season. The problem is, there is no longer £14m knocking around to tempt Liverpool.
Probable signing: Giampaolo Pazzini. The prospect of a loan signing will appeal to the board and the 30-year-old Italian striker is being offered to Premier League clubs.
Other targets: Curtis Davies, Mohamed Salah

BLACK CATS BACKED TO SIGN BORINI

Sunderland’s chances of wrapping up a January deal for Liverpool’s out-of-favour forward Fabio Borini have increased, according to Sky Bet.

The Italian has been out in the cold at Anfield, and the Black Cats’ odds on re-signing him either on loan or on a permanent deal have tumbled from 12/1 to 5/2 this month.

However, he remains more likely to stay at Liverpool (4/5) beyond the next transfer deadline.

(Sorry...)

EXCLUSIVE: Sunderland to battle rivals Newcastle in race to sign Burnley star Danny Ings
SUNDERLAND are set to join neighbours Newcastle in the race to sign Burnley striker Danny Ings.

Gus Poyet has made a goalscorer his No. 1 priority when the transfer window re-opens next month with the Black Cats having found the net just 14 times.

And with another move for Liverpool's Fabio Borini unlikely, Ings is now his top target.

Newcastle are long-time admirers of Ings. But while the North East rivals will fight it out between themselves, the toughest hurdle both must overcome is persuading Burnley to sell.

The England Under 21 international is out of contract next June.

But Burnley boss Sean Dyche knows that if the Clarets are to survive this season, they must hang on to Ings even at the risk of him moving on for nothing when he becomes a free agent.

Poyet also has one eye on the future and is considering a January move for highly rated Exeter midfielder Matt Grimes.

If Burnley are to stay in the Premier League this season it will be thanks in no small part to the contribution of front-man Danny Ings. However, the Clarets will face a fight to keep hold of him in January.

Recently linked with a return to boyhood club Southampton, the Daily Star reports that both Sunderland and Newcastle are interested in a January deal. The Black Cats in particular have made Ings their number one target.

http://rokerreport.sbnation.com/201...ttermole-transfer-news-rumors-hull-sunderland

According to a report in The Telegraph, Hull City boss Steve Bruce is hoping to take Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole to the KC Stadium next month.

It was Bruce who brought Cattermole to Sunderland, after also taking him to Wigan Athletic, and Luke Edwards - who occasionally writes about football when he's not promoting his latest club banning on TalkSPORT radio, reckons he wants him for a third time.

You can see where the story has come from, and you wouldn't be surprised if it was true. Bruce obviously likes the player, he's entering into the final 18 months of his contract, and when Bruce was at Sunderland Luke Edwards was one of the journalists so far up his backside it's a wonder he ever found his way out without a Sat Nav.

Of course, last year after seeing him sent off against Hull Bruce did tell the media he was 'thankful' he no longer had to manage the former 'Boro midfielder. You could also say that, given Cattermole's vast improvement, pretty much from the second Bruce went away, he will also be quite happy Bruce is no longer a major influence on his career.

Then you also have to ask yourself why Gus Poyet would want to sell him, when he refused to sell him last year and his importance has increased significantly in the twelve months since.

No, I think this one needs to be resigned to 'must do better' pile of transfer rumours. I could be wrong, but it just looks daft from just about every relevant angle.

But Hull reached a cup final last season. And were way ahead of us in the league at one point.... Oh.... Hang on!!

No doubt Bruce will have his players feigning injury (much like Cahill et al did against Hull) on boxing day to try to get Cattermole booked just like every other time he's played against him. Meyler and Elmohamady can both **** themselves

Reports have been rife that Arsenal want to send Yaya Sanogo out on loan in the January window, with a trio of Premier League clubs keen on landing the Frenchman.

According to talkSPORT, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Crystal Palace would like to try their luck with Sanogo, with all three clubs desperate to land a goalscorer when the window opens next month.

It took Sanogo over a year to score his first goal for the Gunners, in their recent Champions League group stage win over Dortmund, and Arsene Wenger feels that his progression would be best served gaining regular first team football elsewhere.

The out-of-favour Tottenham winger is one of several targets for the Black Cats, who want at least four January signings, but Newcastle and QPR could also make a move

By Graeme Bailey

Sunderland are eyeing up a loan move for Tottenham winger Andros Townsend, Goal understands.

The Black Cats want to do at least four deals in the January transfer window and have already looked into the possibility of landing Christian Atsu, currently on loan at Everton but set to return to Chelsea in the new year, as a solution out wide.

Townsend was one of the names on the list of targets being put together by Sunderland sporting director Lee Congleton, whom Poyet has informed of his preferred acquisitions.

Newcastle could rival their north-east neighbours for the 23-year-old, though, as they are also seeking a winger, ideally one who can play on the left. Apart from his injury-ravaged goalkeeping department, however, Alan Pardew is largely happy with his sqauad.

Townsend has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino and the club look set to let him depart, most likely on loan, but the Londoner may be unwilling to leave the capital, particularly as the option remains to return to QPR, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell in 2013.

Harry Redknapp has admitted his interest in taking Townsend back to the club and that could be a trump card in the pursuit of the Spurs man.

As well as QPR, Sunderland and Newcastle, however, a source has told Goal that up to six Premier League clubs could be in the mix for Townsend should he be available.

Everton and Sunderland sound out Celtic over Van Dijk

The 23-year-old Dutch centre-back has attracted plenty of attention over recent months and two Premier League sides have made the first move with regards to a possible swoop

By Graeme Bailey

Sunderland and Everton have both contacted Celtic over defender Virgil van Dijk, Goal understands.

The 23-year-old Dutchman has impressed for the Scottish champions since joining from FC Groningen in 2013 and has been included in recent Netherlands squads.

Celtic do not want to lose Van Dijk but sources close to the club have confirmed to Goal that they are expecting him to leave in January.

"Celtic are holding out for the best deal but they have near enough accepted that he will be leaving in the New Year," said one insider.

Goal has learned that Sunderland and Everton have both made initial moves to land Van Dijk, who is valued at around £8 million - although Celtic are pushing for £10m.
