    He's good, on fire atm.

Thankfully the Dominic Calvert-Sicknote rumours have stopped.

27 and worth as much as he's ever going to be after about 15 decent games? Nope, clearly not a Newcastle target.

The only link that sounds Newcastle to me is the Phillips link and howe spoke of wanting another cm.

He's so Newcastle... solid safe grafter

    Surely cm isn’t a priority?

He indicated otherwise.... what we have to remember is that Longstaff despite popular belief simply isn't a top player.

He doesn’t need to be, we own Tonali, Bruno, Joelinton and Willock, then Miley and Anderson.

I think they'll sell one of them this summer and if Guimareas has a clause I think following the clubs failure to land champions league football it will probably be met by a big club and he'll do whats best for his dreams.

I'm sure he loves it here, but a player of his quality will want to get what his abilities deserve... what's he now like 27? He won't het another chance and he'll know it.

I don't disagree mate - I think Bruno is our Coutinho and when you consider Kroos is 34 in January it would make sense for FFP to pocket £100m. Particularly as we already have Tonali, who could be just as good.

But it does depend. The emergence of Villa, the fact Spurs have no Euro football, has made 4th - which was always the highest we could aim for - very, very difficult. Not impossible, mind; when the players come back and we add 2-3 in Jan (which we will) we could launch a real assault on the second half of the season. Spurs' squad depth isn't there, Man U are too hit & miss - Villa are the big threat and have a CL-level manager.

With the money from this years UCL, Saudia deal, then the Adidas deal kicking in, suddenly FFP looks easy. We'll have turnover almost double or more than the squad wages. So we may not even need to cash in. Though I think the £100m clause was canny - club will be "our hands are tied", Bruno will be "I love you, but it's Madrid". But we could sign 4x Tonali's for that money in the Summer on top of strengthening with 2 or 3 in Jan. THEN we'll have a decent squad. I mean, Villa get to choose between Bailey and Diaby for their right wing, then have some really decent players in McGinn, Watkins, Pau Torres, Martinez.

Newcastle are going to have to go on an incredible run for two months or champions league might be another decade away or never because success isn't a guarantee.... this hamas business or war could see our owners chased out.. anything can happen.

FFP means it's going to take a lot longer than people have begun to think simply because of an unlikely and premature taste of the distant future.

Top 4 last season was merely a flash in the pan and as you say because Tottenham and now Villa have outdone Newcastle it's a major delay potentially.

If Aston Villa land champions league they will chuck the kitchen sink at it.

You're getting excited over nothing, this time last year we were still looking at a top ten finish and the manure/scousers duo weren't even at the races,I said it then and I'll say it now that if still there or thereabouts in March then we'll have a chance,if we hadn't drawn 2 games we'd be above City now in 4th place with a game in hand.Have faith :emoticon-0148-yes:

I'm as I've said pre season delighted for a top ten finish. There seems to be some mental gymnastics going on here ? Why is not getting carried away and being content with less than what others are seeking a bad thing?

Really we don't need to so anything much just compete a little and maybe win a cup one day.

I don't do faith mate it's an unreliable pathway to truth. People use faith when they don't have sufficient evidence to believe something

I'm not sure Newcastle should give Howe any more money. They should see how things go then reevaluate in the summer.

I think Roland has been right the entire summer onwards about poor recruitment.

Too much emphasis on being British and having PL experience. There’s countless examples of quality scouting everywhere you look and PL experience, graft and Britishness rarely features. It does in Howe teams however……..

I'm definitely now in full agreement regarding the summers recruitment and I'm actually concerned that it will continue.

Has Howe got too much control ? Something changed in the summer I feel.

This stuff about bloody Phillips? It's nailed on he's got Howe written all over him. If only we got Emery.
