I thinks it helps that we are seen as a club that isn't afraid to play youth. I would rather see a brilliant youngster play for us for a few years then leave for a bigger club, then sign some journeyman. The 3 players that want to leave will only stay if no bid comes in for a bigger club. Having Koeman here means nothing to them. What Koeman does bring is he is able to help us attract good replacements.

I would be perfectly happy with 18m for Rodriguez.

Jay Rodriguez wasn't the biggest talker/team spokesman when he was healthy, so I don't think his silence necessarily reflects his attitude. He hasn't complained about being unhappy or asked to leave publicly. So he's done nothing wrong for me.

Maybe he'd rather play for Spurs than us. I think it's a little odd... but I guess he really likes MP. I just expect that for most players, we aren't their number one choice. If certain clubs come in for them, they will want to leave. It's when players can't have their way when the fun happens. But we haven't had that showdown yet with Rodriguez.

Clyne and Schneiderlin apparently both want to leave but they're still putting in good performances on the pitch. Pretty sure Alderweireld is looking at bigger and better things. And Schneiderlin even threw a tantrum this summer, which Rodriguez did not. So maybe despite wanting to play for Spurs, a bid never materializes or Saints refuse to sell... and Rodriguez comes back and plays great.

Another piece suggesting Man City have an interest in Toby (and suggesting that he favours this move). Obviously the writer is clairvoyant. My reason for posting it is that they mention our purchase clause of 6 million with Atletico's buyout clause of 1.5 million. It has to be in Atletico's interest to break the deal with us. I am not suggesting that we can outbid City, but it always possible that we may offer more which could put off other buyers. After all, there may be a top price that may make City look elsewhere. Despite Toby's diplomacy, there is no doubt that he will be the major mover in the deal.

 

I see The Sun have finally caught on to Alderweireld, Rodriguez,Schneiderlin and Clyne are likely to go.

 

I think they're acting like a right pair of tarts. Does no one play hard-to-get these days?
