If he really doesn't want to be at Saints then good riddance. Shame. Barely a season doing well and he thinks he's too good for us. Thought he was better than that. (Jay that is)

And as I've mentioned he doesn't seem to involve himself with the club, does he? He was in a cancer help video, has been seen once in a Matchday video, and he accompanied the team to Switzerland. No promotional stuff at all.

The only way we can keep our best players is to qualify foe the Euro's, win the odd cup and most importantly pay a competitive salary.
The first two I think we can do but the salary is the biggest issue as we are a million miles away from competing with even mid table clubs like West Ham, Everton etc.
We need a substantial increase in commercial income and stick another 10k+ on our home games. Can't see either so we have to accept the lose of our best players and rely on quality recruitment

You may be right...we may have to rely on a turnover of quality players (who won't all leave after one season, after all). Players may come here because we are seen as a good team that brings out the best in the player and also puts them in the shop window. The players will stay 1-3 seasons depending on their terms and we will have to get used to a rolling scene and one night stands rather than eternal love. That isn't all negative as it means we may get players of a higher quality than otherwise.

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to work it out.

I don't really get JRod's attitude. No one at Saints has done him any harm...as his transfer was prevented by injury not someone blocking his move. Does he really think that he will only be good if playing for Pochettino?

There is a very real scenario that JayRod will be a Saints player next season, at least until next January. 1] Koeman may well consider him unfit to play until August 2015, as he has said so. 2] Saints could rightly refuse any offer until one matches their estimate of his value at his best [±£20M, I would guess]. 3] Koeman referred to JayRod staying as a Saints player for next season. 4] There has been some talk that JayRod himself may well want to remain as a Saints player [I presume only until he has proved himself but it looks good in news articles].

I would not underestimate Koeman's ability to keep a player at the club. Then again, he's fighting a media which seems to want to asset strip the club at every turn, so the groundswell of media opinion is that players want to leave, even if the players are so-so when asked directly [Alderweireld..?]. Still, I stopped caring about who stays and who goes around September last. Clearly, we're better off without those who are not 100% committed to the cause.

One thing, Saints may want to offload JR if his value suffers due to his end of contract looming in June 30th 2016. Maybe it's better all round if we get him fit and get him out. As it happens anyway, our opinions will not change a thing, so don't be concerned Fran.

Really? I am one of the positive ones, but if you think he is showing signs of wanting to stay, then you are far more positive than me.

    Two ways to view it:
    1. No signs he wants out (although the absolute silence sounds pretty loud to me)
    2. No signs he wants to stay

Those discussing the players who won't stay are forgetting an important aspect of "brand Southampton". The players we buy in are not as important as the players we produce. The aspiration is to bring in top players to support our emerging stars. The players I want to stay are the ones we create ourselves. Last year it was thos homegrown players leaving which was so disappointing - but the signs this year seem to suggest our young stars are happy here. The club needs to continue to build a strong sense of loyalty from the base upwards - and what happens with anyone else won't sting so badly.

I read an article about Toby and Morgan which referred to their attitude as flirting. Don't like what it may mean, but I find the term 'flirting' an accurate description of what is going on.

One thing that has occurred to me in the past weeks and months is about JWP. I think it is fairly well known that he was the leader of the last bunch of academy players who knocked on the door of the team. In fact, he got his full debut [against Man City away, first game of 2012-13] before anyone else. Since then he has seen first Shaw, and then Chambers, waltz out the door. They have both tied up their futures at bigger clubs and yet I wouldn't say that they are de facto better players, by any means. They certainly play in positions where there is less competition, whereas JWP plays in the zone where arguably the most complete, all-round footballers play, and he's doing quite well. Would he do better elsewhere..?

Does he normally turn up for home games to support the team? Like Caroll and Sturridge did when they were crocked? Genuine question.

Yes, I think so. I would call that the bare minimum though. Earlier in his rehab I think he would be training while the Lads were playing.

I think those few comments say more about Ronald Koeman than Schneiderlin. It echoes the rumours of JayRod apparently thinking his own future may lie at St Marys. Players like to play with and for great people in the sport. In Koeman, they don't come much more illustrious. This is a manager who, by his own principles of nurturing young players and managing the clubs who are under the top, has never quite been in the limelight, in this country, as he has been on the continent. But he's known by professionals and is very well respected. I'm not saying for a moment that the current crop of want-away players are going to stick around simply because Koeman is at the helm, but it doesn't half help the situation, from SFC's point of view.

As to an author making more of something than he should. Surely that's journalistic licence..? Let's face it, this forum makes more of fragmented disassociated comments than any journalist ever did. Not saying he's right, but keep an open mind.
