I haven't heard anything since I was told we were trying to get Locadia.

 

As Koeman said, not worth it to buy someone for the sake of 2/3 weeks.

 

Looks like Mayuka might be going on the injury list - scored a corker for the Copper Bullets then did the splits a few minutes later and had to be stretchered off.

Yep cm is fine. Prowse, Davis, Gape, Reed, Cork(if he stays). Cb's is a bit of a problem untill Yoshida comes back.

Does presume that our injuries will cease after that point, though, and additional options who'd have utility even in a full squad -- particularly up top, as it doesn't appear that Jay will be back any time soon -- wouldn't go amiss.

 

Doesn't Vilhena play the same position as Davis and JWP (and Hesketh). Surely he would be third choice at best? Or can he play deeper?

What I am essentially asking is would Clasie and Vilhena be the replacements for Morgan and Cork?

I'm pleased to see my FM2014 search based on your clues paid dividends on Locadia. But not pleased about the apparent news that the move will not happen in January
I would have thought it would have been possible given he is only a reserve for them

 

I think those who say we are thin on the ground regarding strikers have a point - the extra firepower sharp gave us in the championship made the difference on reaching promotion; i could see the same thing happening for a top 4 place if we could get someone in. Not that its easy in jan but if we have to pay a little over the odds the potential rewards far outweigh the outlay.

 

But that is the problem "potential" rewards. And also we do not know exactly what kind of outlay was being mooted. Those factors mean we cannot really judge the clubs decision

I only point to factors such as:
-Defoe's 80k p/w wages
-The 5-6m mooted for Gestede (a half decent championship striker)
-Palace rumoured to want to pay 9m for Gomis (and no doubt higher wages than anyone we have) after his one league goal this season

There is probably value in the market. But it doesn't appear to be in the striker position

 

Also, if we have identified Locadia as the player we need (and he's a talented young target man who fits the side perfectly) and his club don't want to do business in January because it will be hard for them to replace him then I would hate for us to bring in an inferior second choice rather than just wait six months.

 

A loan striker or keeper may have been useful - but perhaps that may still happen.

 

Well there are a few options around who could be worth a punt. Modeste from hoffenheim has a great scoring record in the bundesliga, apparently wants to play in the epl and the club are reportedly willing to sell for €5m due to his contract expiring in 6 months. Guidetti might be worth a go for the reported £3m as well.

 

Any half decent striker is unlikely to be available on loan. Or if they are they are players like Osvaldo...

Qualifying for UCL would bring a lot more money. Well worth a gamble.

 

I'm sure some better qualified people have already done that cost benefit analysis (complete with accurate knowledge of actual costs involved)

 

Locadia is a different player to Ings, Locadia is a Big target man Whereas Ings is more of IF.

 

Free is never free, though; you're generally looking at higher bonuses/fees associated with players out of contract given their greater negotiating power.

And it's not merely compared to the likes of Falcao and Di Maria...it's compared to spending in the Premier League, period. That's about 3.75m GBP; for the sake of comparison, having a single match chosen for televised coverage was worth about 750,000 in TV money disbursement last season, the added merit payment for each league position about 1.25m. It's a much different scale these days; 5m Euro ain't nothin', but neither is it a large outlay anymore.
