In Mayuka's defense he is not a winger. The only chance he may have of playing well is in the formation we played Saturday with Pelle up with him. But there are several problems with this:

- Long is better in this role
- I would sooner see Seagar play as the little man off of Pelle than Mayuka based on what Mayuka has demonstrated so far

I wonder if the system from Saturday could work with either Mane or Tadic up with Pelle.
I'm assuming a no on Tadic as he is not really quick enough for it.

It is the way things are that even in a 5-3-2 it still isn't an orthodox "2" up front.
The Dutch were effective at spells in the world cup with RVP and Robben as the 2. Perhaps Elia could work in this way if signed (although I have heard he struggled when played as part of a 2 in Germany)

 

But is it only Man United we need to worry about there?
I suppose City, Chelsea and Arsenal are well stocked there (Arsenal with a player they chose over Clyne this summer)

So then it is just the risk of Liverpool / Spurs offering double or more money for a similar league position (but again I thought Liverpool had several right backs)

 

Glen Johnson's contract is up this summer and Manquillo is only on loan. Depends how highly they rate Flahm/Wisdom as to how serious their interest may be in Clyne I guess. Also if Lallana/Lovren and Lambert continue their current form and Rodgers is still there he may want to try raiding a different team.

 

I think Lallana did well on Sunday and he lasted the whole game.

Manquillo is a two year loan. An I would like to think they would give Flanagan an opportunity when he returns from injury as he is one of the few from their academy and beat Clyne to the England call up (undeservedly to be fair).

The move to wing backs might make them more likely to go after Clyne. But at the moment their vice captain occupies that position...

 

Mayuka came on up front against Sheffield, he looked shockingly out of condition. Thought at the time I would be surprised if he ever appeared for us again, no surprise he didn't even make the bench on Saturday.

 

Mayuka is just awful, which is a shame.

 

Considering the surface and conditions, I said to the people I was at the game with, that despite being on for 15 minutes - his kit was spotless.

Can't recall him touching the ball, and he was woeful. Such an awful player.

 

I always try and look for some positives in a player, but all I can say about Mayuka is he's quick. He must have something though - Golden Boot at ACON and did well for Young Boys.

 

Sometimes it just doesn't happen.......but its time to stop trying to make it happen if you ask me.

 

Just found out he signed for us on a five year deal - so he's here until 2017!

On a side note I wonder if a defensive signing (perhaps a loan or identified target should we fa to sign Toby permanently) will be on the cards. I point this out because I am pretty sure we lose Maya for all of January leaving us with 3 cbs plus McCarthy

Suggestion that Snjeider will cost 9 million. Koeman says we can't afford his wages, but Galatasarey failed to pay him several times. Perhaps an offer of £7 an hour, but with a guarantee that we will pay him will do

 

Well we play on weekends and Bank Holidays which could be double time.

 

No, time and a half should be enough...don't want to spoil him.
