I don't think you can say Carlton House didn't stay Shergar. He was plugging on as good as anything else at the death but he never looked like winning.

I think it was more a case of him lacking the quality to get into the race because he was probably closest at the finish. Certainly no excuses today, simply not good enough.
 
No discredit to the Epsom runner-up in winning at The Curragh, I backed Seville again so it was bound to not win. The fact that no English runner has won since 1994 ought to have steered people away from the favourite. Carlton House did not stay. End Of Story.
 
I agree with Zenyatta. Carlton House stayed at Epsom and today - he was simply not good enough. Breeding is only ever an indicator of how a horse might stay, it is not definitive. As at Epsom, Carlton House never quite looked like getting there and just plugged on.
 
I agree with Zenyatta CH did stay, his final 1/2 furlon proved it. To put it bluntly he is just not good enough! I am a big fan of the horse but unfortunately he can compete at that level and wont be able to a the arc etc...:sad:
 
So pleased Treasure Beach won. I've been praising this horse since last year but he's exceeded my expectations.
 
Ron......I remember our discussions on 606 last year about the potential of Treasure Beach when he was still just an unproven 2yo, so it is great that he has achieved so much at 3.

We were discussing how unlucky he was when beaten in a pissy race at Listowel, so who would have thought back then that he would get beat just a head at Epsom and then win the Irish Derby. I really do hope he goes on to further success:biggrin:
 
I climbed out of bed this morning ans was just about to "boot up" when the good woman dragged me out the door for a bit of curtain shopping. Fours later, and still no curtains, I opened the front door. After making a cuppa and stealing a few biscuits, I settled in front of the pc. Then it was straight to Attheraces for the replay. What a waste of time. All I saw was a mob of pie eaters whacking away in the run to the line. A very average bunch indeed.
 
Cyclonic, good morning- watch the digestive and custard creams, they'll put weight on you (as they have for me!). I can't disagree about "the mob of pie eaters" but I do so like pies- my Northern W.C. upbringing, I suppose (working class, not toilet by the way).
 
Morning Tam. Australia is a Nation built on the humble pie. As a child we had any number of pie carts spread across the country. In fact, there was a famous pie cart (caravan) in Sydney called Harry's Cafe de Wheels. It came as famous as Don Bradman and Phar Lap. So well known was Harry' Cafe de Wheels, that celebrities who visited our fair shores, made a point of tasting Harry's fare. Among those who sampled the goodies were Frank Sinatra, Robert Mitchum, Marelene Dietrich, Kerry Packer and more recently, Sir Richard Branson, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Brook Shields, Pat Rafter, Olivia Newton-John, Jerry Lewis, Billy Crystal, Pamela Anderson, Sara O’Hare, Lachlan Murdoch, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Adrian Greiner, Anthony Bourdain and Peter Blakely.

As a child, my family sometimes indulged in the local Redcliffe "special," the pie floater. A meat pie with mushy peas, sitting in an ocean of pea soup. I've long since given up the meat, but regular savage a vegi pie.

Cyclonic, shame on you! How can you give up meat pies and still want to live?
I grew up on my mother's meat and potato pie- stewing steak, onion, carrots, etc-covered with a suet crust in an earthenware bowl. Beautiful! My wife still makes it for me.
Also, most of the local pubs in East Lancashire served pie and peas- either meat or meat&potato with mushy peas. The pubs don't do it down here in the Midlands- peasants!
Take away meat and pastry from my regimen and I'm done for!
 
Cyc.....Obviously when you get a bunched finish like we seen yesterday, it's usually that the winner is just a half decent G1 performer, but nothing overly special! I suppose we already knew that after Epsom there was unlikely to be a superstar in the field!

I do think the winner will prove to be pretty useful, even if he isn't quite up to his Sire Galileo's standard's. I'd be interested to see what route they plot with the horse, as AOB seems to be mob handed with his older horses, so is he going to take them on in races like the King George, Arc etc or is he going to take the boring route and go for the St Leger, I'd like to see him in the KG, just to see how he gets on :biggrin:
 
I didn't see the race but was ecstatic to see that Carlton house came nowhere. May as well put him in a kennel. Said it all along so nice to be proved right. For the record I never had a bet but had i done so it would have been a win on Seville.

He reminds me of Murtagh a little, not the flashiest but always puts his horse were it should be and gives them every opportunity to win if there good enough. Colm is the same he's a talented jockey aswell. A little harsh on Fallon though, it was hardly his fault that he was banned at Epsom, afterall he broke his bridges with Dunlop to ride for AOB, and it backfired, you would think AOB would offer him some ammunition for the loyalty atleast :biggrin:

Fallon told Magnier he was free to ride when he wasn't. Heff is a joke jockey gets his horse into wrong positions and panicks BUT he did give seville a good ride yesterday.
 
Famous.....I suppose if you look at it that way, then Fallon has messed them around. Fallon has ended up burning his bridges with 2 trainers who would have given him with plenty of ammunition:biggrin:
 
the fact is John sees him as a son thats why through all the court cases they stood by him and even after he came back they were prepared to give him rides but thre is only so much rope someone will give you ya know
