What no one but a Southampton supporter could appreciate is that was a culmination of years of hard graft by Rickie and made much of the pain Saints fans had endured almost worthwhile. I honestly think it was days before I could stop grinning, and I'm a miserable bugger. Strangely feeling 'down' about tonight. Mind you Scotland are trying to cheer us up by playing in their famous pink strip.
Was a great feeling and was so happy for him to score the winner against Scotland with his first touch in international football. On tonight and I reckon we'll get beat... actually think the home game suits us less than the one up there. A relatively quiet home crowd... no permanent manager... and 15 odd thousand Jocks loudly supporting their team. Just think this suits them as the underdog and both the players and fans will be well up for it. Sadly more than we will imo. If we start well we may be okay... if not they'll just gain confidence and it will be draw at best I reckon.
What did I say to you at the pub about always wanting us to start well............. Look how Saints did against Hull
Watching the England back line trying to pass the ball around, before getting hurried into an error, makes me appreciate just how well drilled the Saints are at creating the correct angles for a pass. The more I see of Stones the more I wonder why Man City even bought him, let alone paid so much.
Well England don't deserve to be winning. Can see Scotland equalising, and deservedly so, if they don't start playing better. Bring on the U21's they will play better than this lot. Hard to pick on any particular players as so many have been sloppy.
Harsh to criticise the striker when our creative play has been absolutely dross. Sturridge got one half chance and scored it.
