Is this all bad luck, or is it anything to do with the state of the training ground/training methods? I guess we'll never know. There seemed to be a feeling amongst the players that they were over-trained under Walter -- did that contribute to Millar and Belloumi? But now it's happening under Selles too.

Think that's a bit of a myth. Injuries are part and parcel of the game. Who'd insure them?

Youd assume the club are doing a full investigation

It may just be bad luck, but it could be poor sports science etc etc etc

Muscle injuries can normally be attributed to poor conditions/training.

Given that 2 of the ACL injuries happened under contact and Matazo’s didn’t I think it’s just incredible bad luck.

There was talk of him over-training them early on but then after he left and more came out about it, the whispers from Baz were about senior players being underwhelmed by the intensity of the sessions compared to what they were used to.

Now some people will want to pounce on the seemingly contradictory nature of that and dismiss it all as bollocks, but it did come from the players so it won't be totally made up. I'd love to hear more detail about it but I suppose it's not really relevant any more.

No idea. To my knowledge it's never come out in any detail. Baz seems to know stuff about it but hasn't explained in full that I've heard.

It must be the training facilities, 2 major knee injuries under one manager a few weeks after signing for the club in the summer and then another 2, different manager, a few weeks after signing for the club in January. It's the only common denominator.

It's not a myth, clubs have insurance and lots of the players have personal insurance policies against injuries, loss of earnings etc, especially in the lower leagues

Great! What's the payout on an ACL? Remember when Ryan Mason got crocked any insurance we (the club) received, if anything was negligible.

I understand athletes, musicians, artists (or anyone else) can insure themselves against loss of income through illness or injury, but that doesn't necessarily benefit the club.

It will all depend on the policy and levels etc, so no idea. From a player's POV I had one that covered me against loss of earnings if I couldn't train/play and had pay outs for broken bones, career ending things etc

That's different from the club getting an insurance payout to offset the wages/transfer fee though, which is what I understood the OP to be implying.

Yes I know it is. Hence why I said from a player's POV

It was a seven figures amount, that’s not negligible.

Didn't come close to covering the 8m or whatever the outlay was though, did it? And that was a career ending injury.

We almost certainly won't be in a situation where we lose Millar, Belloumi and Matazo for the season and have the losses covered by insurance, or even close to it.

There's been an uptick across all clubs so it's not just us.
