I know I'm only stating the obvious but a victory is going to almost certainly keep us up.

Fulham's next game would be Tottenham away, if as expected they would lose or draw it would leave them (at best) with having to win all of their final 3 games and us to lose all 3. They are not going to catch up 14 goals on us to send us down on goal difference.

If we draw however, things do not look anywhere near as rosy. We will almost certainly need at least one more point (which should be achievable)

Lose, and that will probably be the end of us, it will be 2 wins on the spin for Fulham and a very promising run in of fixtures for a team full of confidence. Whilst we may well have lost any shot in the arm from Adams.

I haven't included Cardiff and Sunderland as in my opinion there is little hope for either reaching 32 points.


I may be over simplifying but I think this game is going to be the decider of whether we stay up or go down, it's us or them

Carrabuh - I've not always been a fan of yours (I'm sure that doesn't bother you!!), but you always talk a lot of sense and this post only serves to highlight that fact. It really is THE match which I feel will decide whether or not we are playing in the Premier League or the Championship next season. If the players aren't 'fired up' for this game (team selection is going to be INTERESTING to say the least!!), then there really is no hope for us and we will almost certainly be relegated. <cheers>

Anything less then 100% on Saturday will be an insult to the fans, no amateur like half measures from the players, if Adams want's to step up to the mantle then he has do deliver we should not accept any less. So let's all take off the green and yellow tinted glasses and get real about things.
 
Sometimes the obvious is worth saying.

It also goes without saying that the pressure is just as bad, if not more so, for Fulham.
 
The comforting thing is we could be mathematically safe in two games time and that it is highly likely in the event of defeat the Arsenal game will mean something.

Not quite because Sunderland will still have a game in hand the Sunday after the Liverpool match (so assuming they lost their next three they would need four wins to get ahed of us), but agreed that a draw against Liverpool after a win against Fulham could well put us near enough there.
 
I think it is actually quite likely that one of Cardiff or Sunderland will reach 32 points. They have to play each other. One of them is likely to take 3 points from that and that doesn't leave that team needing much to bring them up to 32, and both have winnable games remaining. I can't see them going much beyond that though.

Does anyone know how supportive the Fulham fans are of Magath at home? As in, are they vocally behind him and the team, or is it anything like the situation towards the end of Hughton's reign at Carrow Road? Just thinking an awkward home crowd combined with some excellent support from our lot could really make a difference.

Massive, massive game.

I would think that Fulham would go into this match with confidence high, beaten you at your place, done you in the FA Cup, apparently won every meeting with you at the Cottage this century!

If memory serves, they've relegated you before too...can't really see there being an 'awkward home crowd' on such a make or break day for Fulham.

I wouldn't go so far as say that, there are still 4 more games after that and you never know. It's a funny old game.

We might have our tails up and actually take the game to opponents now. It will certainly be interesting whatever the outcome.
 
I personally think that we will be out of sight at half time.

Either so far behind and no way back or 3 nil up!

If Fulham score early on I will fear the worst though.

I agree that if we win, we're safe. I also think that if Fulham win, we are almost certainly going to go down.

If it's a draw however, I have no idea.
 
i think a lot of the so-called 'experts' will predict a draw, as both teams have so much to lose, it will be a cagey affair.

I think though if you do the maths, if we win this, we basically need one more point for mathematical (or perhaps realistic) survival. Yes, Fulham will have four games to play and eight behind, but they are unlikely to win at Tottenham away, so it's more likely to be three games for them to get eight points.


The more interesting thing is a draw - that leaves them five points behind with four games to play. They will probably need six points for safety. Then it will go down to the wire and we will quite possibly need something from Liverpool or Arsenal at home.

But they will be five points behind.

So a win and a draw won't be enough for them to overtake us. They need a minimum of two wins (I can't see goal difference swinging) and us to get nothing from our last four matches. Fulham have more to lose from drawing this match because odds are that we will pick up at least a point in our last four games. A draw would make it very nervy for us, as I fear it would mean hoping two of Stoke, Palace or Hull do us a favour...
