It's an odd one for sure, with no mention of an injury, death in the family or anything else that could reasonably keep him out of the team. Neil Adams probably did himself few favours yesterday, unless he just wanted to give RVW a run out, to make his mind up about him. He should have seen enough to know it's time to get rid, along with Elmander who replaced him
How can you not say we haven't come close? Are you just being stupid?? When we played Watford what 2 games ago it was in our on hands whether we made it or not...... Add to that it's only become mathematically impossible with 1 game of the season left of the season.....please explain to me how that isn't close?????????????????????wtf are you on
But they couldn't have played together etc etc I still get wound up by the thought of that t**t, I mean really if a decision made logical sense he'd go and do the complete opposite and spend millions in the process, he truely is the worse thing ever to happen to this football club!!
Because the best we're going to finish is the same distance away in terms of points and further down the table, all that's happened was that we won a few and then lost a few, won a few lost a few instead of being consistent in our form. The best we will finish is likely to be four or five points off, most likely it will be 8. That's really not close! And you call me stupid
Hampy, you realise you identified a pattern to our season then said our form wasn't consistent. Since November we've been consistently (well, always) been in the top 10 and constantly breathing down the play-off neck. We threw it away over the Easter Weekend, with 4 games to go it was in our hands. Even if the final position isn't really 'close', 4 games to go is about 42 games closer than we've been for the past 5 seasons
Just keep digging..... THE FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON IS THE ONLY GAME WE HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE OF GETTING INTO THE PLAYOFFS BUT OF COURSE I APOLOGISE WE WERE MILES OFF Go lie down in a dark room, your hearts in the right place but by god you come out with some left field opinions sometimes
I don't think there's any point in trying to reason with him But you're right we've been one of the most consistent teams in the division, I'd say we've kept our position more than most teams who have fluctuated, we must've moved through about 5 positions all season, now that's pretty consistent. As you said just over a week ago the playoffs were in our own hands and we've had a poor week
Yeah your wrong there hampy, how can you say we are are not consistant, i mean just look at how many times we won four on the bounce............Oh hold on............. Yeah we are consistant, consistantly average!! Oh and this Conor Wickham guy, is this the same one you lot said was no good and moaned that we got rid of the wrong one etc etc etc? Mick out!!
Is that all hoppers, nothing to point out consistantly good form, surely you must be ablle to show me the consistant winning streak,? No, dudnt think so, that is because we have been inconsistant, in performances and results, the only reason we have been consistantly in the top ten is because all the gash around us were consistanty unconsistant!!
Streaks: This season: Longest winning streak: 3 Wins (30 November - 7 December; Charlton, Blackburn and Huddersfield) Longest Drawing Streak: 2 (Multiple times) Longest Losing Streak: 2 (Multiple Times) Longest Unbeaten: 8 (4 Wins 4 Draws, 30 Nov -29 Dec; Chartlon, Blackburn, Huddersfield, Nottingham, Watford, Doncaster, Bournemouth, Charlton) Without Win: 5 (4 Draws 1 Defeat, 1 Oct -1 Nov;Derby, Sheffield, Burnley, Bolton, Barnsley) Last Season: Winning: 3 Drawing: 2 Losing: 4 Unbeaten: 5 Without Win: 11
What I love about this forum, is you only need say the most basic of things and people struggle to get their head around it. We started the season pretty poorly, then we had a good run end of November to early January and since then we've won a couple and got to the brink, then lost a couple - weaving our way in and out close to the play offs and then further away again. That means it averaged out, without being consistent. Such a brain exploding concept I do realise.
That depends what you mean by chance really. At the age of 34 and with no professional football experience there is still a possibility I will manage Ipswich Town. Then there is statistical chance which is a little bit closer to reality - we have not had that on our side all season and what there was of it drifted way out after the defeat to Watford, was on its very last legs when we conceded the second goal to Bournemouth and was as far away as Pluto by the time we kicked a ball against Burnley. Again PTC, I know this is advanced stuff I don't want to hurt your brain mate.
No. I understand what your saying - Its the reason for the whole 'where you are at Christmas defines where you'll probably end up' "saying". But on that basis the league may aswell end at Christmas, the league can extrapolate scores and form to mathematically work out the final league position. But if that was the case Arsenal would be League champions, Cardiff would have been promoted seasons earlier than they eventually did, and we would have been promoted in 2005. The game of football and the excitement it brings is all Ifs and buts. What the majority of us are saying is if we actually turned up against Watford and Bournemouth (Who BTW were 15th at Xmas - also, Leeds were in 5th) didnt have a lucky deflection, a goal-less draw at Burnley would have seen us confirm 6th place. And that is our definition of coming close. EDIT: At Watford we were also a crossbar away from taking the lead, which would have changed the course of events that led to them going back in front, and scoring again.
Weighty is also quite right in saying that anything is possible, which is the point you're making - but that's not the same as likelihood. I'm not sure Arsenal had a great chance of winning the league from their position, it's a lot more complex than plonking a team in a position half way through and that being where there'll end up - a change of manager is the most obvious catalyst for a big change. My point was always that without changing any factors we shouldn't expect our form to change dramatically enough to make it into the top six (based on the fact that over the five seasons I looked at, the only teams that managed to make up the deficit we had at that point were ones that had changed manager). You can talk about luck and bad luck, but luck tends to even itself out. There isn't a lot of luck in football anyway, which is why you would always hear Alan Hansen talk about playing percentages and why Manchester United defenders always used to block a ball face on and you saw the Norwich lad get his shape wrong and deflect into the net against Liverpool - that wasn't bad luck. Create enough chances, have someone who can put them away more often than not and defend properly and you'll win football matches. We haven't been doing the last part against Huddersfield (but their attackers were poor), against Watford, Bournemouth or Burnley and that's why we're out of it.
It's also why although we've got better at attacking our form hasn't been as good this season as it was last season under Mick - our defence was rock solid last season.
Look guys, (Hampy & Spanish) we all know MM is not perfect, I also find him frustrating at times, what most of us are trying to say is that he is a whole lot better than the last couple (at least) of managers we have had. You are both coming across(to me anyway) that you are only both happy when you can find something to have a jolly good whinge about.! (As an a-side the easter fixtures this year were pretty unfair, to play 2 games in 3 days against a side who had 2 games in 4 days was telling, most of our players were out on their feet last 20-25mins v the cherries.)
Just wondering if you both think our "chances" would have been better in the last 1/4 of the season if Didsy had been available.?
