Damn right Weighty, JWM and Hoppers have now decided who should be our favourite player. And if we don't agree it's off to the gas chamber
It seems to me that we are weaker when Skuse and Hyam play together but I rate Luke better as an all round performer. If Luke and Woody played together there would be protection for the defense as well as forward play.
I think Skuse played well for most of the season but after his injury lay of was a little off his game.........although i do wish he would have a shot now and then...
Skuse has had a very steady/unimaginative season.Reasonable as holding midfielder but far to prone to square/backwards passes,he needs the likes of Williams or Didds to come deep and take the ball off him.About the most positive thing l've seen him do was the last home game when he headed the ball into space ,chased it himself and crossed for Anderson to score.Just wish he'd do that type of thing more often, but l don't think he'd make himself too popular with MM!
Very true, but i doubt Mick will see it that way. Skuse is our most talented midfielder but he lacks that drive and because he seems content to sit and not do alot else that puts pressure on the other players to force something in an attacking sense, and completely skews the balance of the midfield. As I've said before Mick McCarthys Ipswich defend as a team but we don't attack as one an Skuse is the epitomy of this.
To be fair to Hampy, the Chambers, Smith partnership has been the best CB partnership I've seen for a very very long time even though Berra is clearly our best CB, would be interesting to see if Chambers and Berra make a good partnership. But as Hampy said hopefully next season when Hewitt is given more of a chance those 3 will be pretty interchangeable, we were very lucky in terms of injuries this season that none of them really got a serious injury
The thing that made us competitive this season was in the end our downfall. That thing was McCarthys steady/ cautious approach. For 95% of the season it kept us in touch of the important positions but when we needed the points at home to Bournemouth and definitely after that game, the game at Burnley he tried to keep us tight and it saw us fall short. The Bournemouth game we just got deeper and deeper and the subs made it worse. After that we needed a win at Burnley but seemed to go out with a must not get beaten ethos rather than death or glory. A point was never going to be good enough so we may as well of given it a go. Regardless of that then the season, although lacking excitement, was miles better than the squad suggested was possible and far ahead of what I was expecting. Whether some were proved right or wrong is irrelevant for me. Its just nice not to be in any form of danger.
I don't totally agree, the Bournemouth game was to quick after the Watford game, 48 hours rest was very telling on our boys, after an hour we were pretty much running on empty.! I do take your point though MM can be to cautious at times!
